Linux support
hi there,

from the videos the game looks beautiful, the story seems very interesting and the price is very attractive.

I wonder if you have plans to support the Linux platform?

Noted, and thanks for being so patient. This is the chillest thread on here.

/me wants some bugs to test. Any plans on previews?
Chazz the Elder 17 apr, 2016 @ 10:46
/me also. I even have a laptop that surprisingly seems capable of running Talos Principle (64-bit) in Linux.
IonizedGames  [utvecklare] 17 apr, 2016 @ 11:01
Yeah, I need to start working on this. There's probably going to be more problems than I anticipate (probably the materials).

I'm trying to push more content out to the beta next week but I'll set aside some time to attempt a Linux build. I'll post here with any news but I'll aim for at least a working version by the end of the month. You all have been incredibly patient about this.
DasCapschen 17 apr, 2016 @ 11:04
Well it's not going to be fun if you rush it out and then everything is broken :)
And if you need help with porting to Linux, I'm sure all of us here are more than willing to help you. Because more awesome high quality games on Linux are always awesome ♥
Chazz the Elder 17 apr, 2016 @ 11:07
What he said. If there's one thing Linux gamers have learned, it's that quality beats haste any day.
IonizedGames  [utvecklare] 17 apr, 2016 @ 11:27
Certainly, but keep in mind 99% of the porting is going to be handled by the Engine itself. A stable build is the first step and I'll push that as soon as its done. It's probably going to be hit or miss.

Where I expect the trouble shooting to come in is some of the shaders (how UE4 converts blueprint nodes to HLSL) and possibly some problems with the draw calls. The controls and game logic shouldn't be a problem.

Hey folks! Over the last few days I've worked on putting together a Linux build of CAT Interstellar. The other day I had success and I was able to successfully load the game on Ubuntu 14.04. I'll post the specs of my desktop later, but I thought I'd share some screenshots with you first.

Looks like some textures and shaders didn't compile correctly, so we've got to track down those issues. We'll be working on this over the next few weeks, so stay tuned! We'll keep you updated.

Until then! :cell:

I don't want to say I called it but that pink stuff can only mean one thing... shaders...
DasCapschen 29 apr, 2016 @ 5:13
Huh... didn't expect that, would've thought UE4 got shaders handled correctly.
Well, it is awesome to hear you're on it, keep up the good work and take your time :)

just wanted to step into the line of the "+1 for linux, looks awesome, but take your time"-posts ;)
as soon as it is available for linux, you've got my buy!

Holy cow, this is great. Thanks for the heads up. Just to update this thread we are going to upload a test build to the linux branch just to make sure everything is working between the 64,32 bit windows and the linux on the Steam end. The second linux update should have DOG and the terrain. If that doesn't blow anything up we should have the project on par with the windows version by the third update. It isn't perfect but I think it's the best path forward. The first patch will be this week for sure. I'm just trying to clean some stuff up on the windows side before I push all of them.

Thanks again for you patience and all the help
