Actually, it was right on time, considering that they don't make games like this anymore. I'd love for someone to remake this or make a game like it, but that's probably not going to happen, since it probably wouldn't appeal to a large audience and/or make lots of money.

Ugh. I hate the video game industry these days.

this game is like the schwarzenegger film terminator 2 , you can make new ones with more boom and gloom but it will never as good as the one without it. Today nobody can do this, make a game like sacrifice, it wil bekome a devastating piece of crap when they try xD

Well i would say it would be possible but when companies will try to remake it there will be some bad trys i mean look at Dungeon Keeper there are so many games out there that try to be the next dungeon keeper and failed to do so and now we might get a worthy dungeon keeper remake with War for the Overworld but again only time will show if it is a worthy Dungeon Keeper remake. So what i want to say it if they can remake dungeon keeper they could also remake Sacrifice the problem would be that they need to stick to the ground concept that made Sacrifice good

It's a fairly simple idea. It's something I imagine being made by a small developer - like War For The Over World. 3rd Person meets rock paper scissors, plus awesomesauce :D One day :)

I doubt they'd be able to use the Sacrifice name if a remake were to be made. For starters Shiny Entertainment doesn't exist anymore, they merged with 2 other companies and became Double Helix games, known for such travesties as Silent Hill: Homecoming and Green Lantern: Rise Of The Manhunters, and the only seemingly current division of Interplay still operating is Interplay Discovery which focus on publishing indie games, so trying to actually get hold to the rights to Sacrifice would probably be a total nightmare, not to mention getting the likes of Richard Doyle, Tim Curry and Paul Eiding together to do fresh voices would cost a small fortune.

That being said, the concept of an indie developer making a game with a similar theme would be a nice breath of fresh air right now with all these first person shooters and zombie survival games that are infesting every nook and cranny of the video gaming world.
The difficult part is programming the mechanics. It's easy to make a first person shooter 'cos the coding is simple, heck, even easier if you use the unreal development kit, but it's certainly not easy to make an RTS game due to all the possible variables between summoning and losing units, gaining resources, issuing commands and the ten tonne of other stuff, but hopefully some people with some talent can do it.
Petroglyph would probably do a good job of it I'd imagine, what with them being C&C vets ^.^

Nah, leave the game as it is. A lesson for todays lazy developers who consistently fail to come up with original ideas.

I do not know who owns the rights to this game as the company which originaly made it, Shiny, changed all personnel and then bankrupted after making a crap game called Golden Compass for Sega. Not sure who's property it is now. Depending on who the owner is may determine whether anyone might do a sequel, or at least an HD remake.

It seems weird to me how Shiny dissapeared like that after having games like Earthworm Jim, MDK, Messiah and Enter The Matrix lining their pockets for years. Atari must have done a serious number on their bank accounts when they bought them :S

I just checked and it looks like at least Sacrifice was published by Interplay and developed by Shiny. I am not sure what happened to Interplay these days.

Interplay......: Sacrifice....Evolva.....Giants Citizen Kabuto....Freespace1/2.....Carmageddon

If publishers would nowadays came up with games like this, they would be super rich (and FAMOUS)
Or wait....actually the publisher couldn't survive it, since most of the gamers rather buy the mainstream crap. |:-/

Stupid lesson, because todays good developers with original ideas(sang froid tales of werewolves) dont get enough votes. As result, we will never see sequel. Good job community, you choose "retro, old school, nostalgia" product from bankrupt company and dont support really good indie with original ideas.

Yea, I still have the disk for Evolva somewhere. I liked it, though I remember reviews for it were bad.
