To be frank, I really enjoyed the game. I started playing it way after it was released, so this isn't a nostalgia trip for me or anything, this was from pure interest in the genre and what I've heard about it. I was not disappointed.
This game is packed with content. There's lots of quests, characters, weapons, locations, and items. There's almost always 2 or 3 ways to resolve a conflict and the straightest path isn't always the best one. Most of your choices do have some sort of consequence. The combat can be pretty challenging, but can also be like super easy if you have the right build, it's not particularly well balanced. The visuals, well, they kind of hit the spot for what the game is portraying. Dark, dull, forboding, if not boring landscapes. I mean, you're in the middle of the desert, it's not that interesting. The humor is pretty cool, and I must have laughed a few times at either something happening or when a character said something funny. The story is pretty interesting overall, having you start as one of the previous PC's (from Fallout) decendants in a tribal community to helping out (or hurting) towns or refugees to disabling (or enabling) nukes.
I think that anyone who can deal with turn-based rpgs should play this. It's pretty awesome. Even if you haven't played turn-based rpgs or maybe have had bad experiences with them, you should like this. But stay away if you can only handle fps style gameplay, this isn't for you.
The steam version does work with all of the mods out there btw, I've not run into any issues regarding that stuff.
Would die in the first battle again.
