Fallout 2
SHOULD I JUST START WITH FO2?
OR PLAY THE SERIES FROM THE BEGINING!

id say its your choice, but FO2 is fleshed out, a lot more going on. FO1 is quite minimalist in comparison but is still a great game. maybe try the first one to start with just in case you feel it doesnt compare, but they are both great games in their own ways
THANK YOU! I WILL DO JUST THAT.
Fallout 1 serves as a great, but less balanced tutorial to fallout 2.

Its final boss is straight up haunting, and playing it only serves to enhance the experience of fallout 2.

Fallout 2 is funnier, wackier, more serious, lighter, darker, more balanced, and overall more interesting. It plays off the curiosities left behind from the first game, and has enemies that will stay terrifying much longer then they did in the first game.
Fallout 1 is a fantastic game, it really gives you a sense of desolation as civilization is struggling to rebuild, its much smaller than 2 but it has rich content, and you will learn to instantly go on a murderfest as soon as anyone hurts dear sweet Dogmeat. Also, watch out for Ian, he is a ♥♥♥♥.

Fallout 2 though, is amazing, you have a larger world to explore, more places to visit, more people to interact with, more stuff to do and more depth to your consequences. If you choose to be a slaver, expect it to alter the majority of your interactions with common folk.
The choice of saving or damning a town is more pronounced, it shapes every how that town interacts with you. Blow up the reactor in Gecko? Their neighbor to the south, Vault City, will banish you. Become a Hubologist, or Scientologist as its a very thinly veiled reference, it will colour how that town perceives you and what you can do.
Want a crack at a genuine military base staffed by trained troopers with high quality weapons? You got it.
Think you got the moxy to become the heavyweight champ of north California? You can try.
Pornstar? Yup.
Drug dealer? Certainly.
Wider variety of NPCs to recruit, each with individual strengths and weakness, including a bad ticker? Yup.
Car? Hell yes.
Storyline thats effected by your stats? You got it. The idiot playthrough is great fun.
Fallout 2 is the best in the series and the story is so well written, that when Bethesda made 3, they ripped the whole story off with some small changes.

...and these are from the nice neighborhoods in FO2!! love the storyline. Too bad the new games arent nearly as advanced as what the originals were for the times. Sure the new ones look PRETTY but they hardly add anything new except graphics...advances in story telling should have been a priority of the fallout universe other than a 3D world.
Not that it was bad, but for the times...it should be so much more!

okay you should play fallout 1 first but i played 2 a little before 1 and i got the plot just fine. its not like fallout NV and 3 how there not connected at all. 1 and 2 are connected alot. it sorta spoiles it if you play 2 first but it wont kill you id recommend playing 1. you can wait to fight the enclave i couldent thats why i picked 2 lol

i feel fallout 1 there bare bones nothing rebuilt yet unlike in NV theres a ton of stuff .in 1 almost complete waste land and the gritty graphics and cinimatics really give it that atmoshpere that NV did not have. fallout 3 fallows the same fomula but doss not have the mood the first 1 and 2 had. but i dont hate fallout 3 and NV there just not as good in my opinion. i just hated brotherhood of steel the console one

SOME REALLY GREAT ANSWERZ HEAR! I APPRECIATE IT FROM ALL OF YOU.. GOOD INPUT... I WILL MOST DEFINETLY BE STARTING WITH THE ORIGINAL FALLOUT!

I SUPPOSE I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION, AND IT'S ONLY OUT OF INTREST... I KNOW THE MOD COMMUNITY HAS CREATED SOME GREAT CONTENT/FIXES! WOULD YOU PLAY THE GAME WITH ANY MODS, NOT FOR ADDITIONAL CONTENT, BUT TO JUST TRULY MAKE THE GAME, 'SMOOTHER' IF YOU WILL? OR JUST PLAY THE VANILLA GAME? THANKS
