Compatibility Mode
I'm a patient guy with a broken game apparently. Error: Fallout 2 seems to be running in compatability mode. Don't know what this means, but it didn't have any problems the first launch.

Nobody give me any "install a patch" B.S. I have a fine computer, and I paid money for this game, so I should have to be downloading any of this extra crap.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Did you turn compatibility mode on? Do you even know what that is?

No, I suppose I don't, but I don't recall ever turning it on.

It sure looks like you're not the only one who has this problem. You might want to take a look at this thread:

I did not have this problem myself however. These are the mods I installed before playing the game for the first time. Maybe they solved this problem before it occured.

You may not want to hear someone tell you to install patch BS, but it's the smartest thing to do. Fallout 2 is not a broken game, it was made 15 years ago like 3 or 4 OS's ago. People have created patches and mods to make the game work the way it is supposed to because Interplay and black isle have been gone for awhile. If you want to play Fallout 2 for what it is supposed to be then download the patches, and if downloading patches sounds terribly painful then I would suggest probably not even bothering with the game due to it's age.

Actually I haven't looked at it this way - you're right. In perspective, it wasn't designed for the OS's we have today, as they did not have any way of knowing they'd exist, and since Interplay is now out of action, there has been no official way to fix it... but I suppose had they still been working on it, there would have been a patch or something today, not unlike how buggy console games require you to update them with patches frequently. Thank you.

My favorite fallout site is NMA-fallout.com (No mutants allowed) been around for a long time and they have tons of resources and mods that people are still updating to this day. Also on a side note, the last retail version of Fallout 2 to come out actually had an unoffical community mod on the disk that fixed tons of bugs.

Yeah, I installed it. It was far less time consuming and tedious than I had expected. The game runs just fine now. Thank you.

No problem, if you have any other questions about the game just message me.

I shall. Thanks again. :)
