Fallout 1 & 2 intro freeze, please help

Whenever I run the games, the intro plays in a black and white, grainy mess. It has audible sound. If I skip to the Main Menu, the game "freezes" at the end of the intro, keeping the same screen. I've looked on the internet for a fix and tried it out, but it isn't working. It had to do with renaming the dll file to f1ddraw.dll, and some other stuff with a Fallout FIXT patch.
