Fallout 2

Fallout 2

Advices for making me play this game ?
Hey there, i'm a late player of fallout since i started with fallout 3. I bought this game years ago but i didn't really tried it because i had isues with the first sequence in the beginning temple.

I'm not sure if i can enjoy the game and give it another try because of my limited free time so tell me what you think about this game if you have some spare time.

Install Fallout Restoration Project: http://www.killap.net/. It includes the unofficial patch. Chose small guns as weapons and you will get many weapons to try early on. Get a bottle of good beer for the temple in the beginning and rush the temple, you wont miss anything. After that think about trying to do one quest a day, your own Fallout 2 daily :)

Edit: Forgot to mention you have to be the quest giver. Give quests like "explore city", "chat with people", "look for a better weapon", "try to find work", "get wasted and do something stupid" etc. etc.

I nejoy this and FO1 mostly due to its little quirks. Sure we have VATS in the later games, but its not quite the same as using a targetted shot to the groin and seeing "Female bandit's child bearing days are in trouble now".

It has its own special little charm that the later games doesn't quite have... also sorry if the screenshot is tiny, you might have to zoom in a bit to read it.

About turn based combat. You need to use your action points to move away from melee critters. And later, learn to duck around corners to lead enemies into your line of fire.

In the opening sequence, you need to move atleast 4(4 AP) spaces away to make them use that same amount to get close enough to hit you. Because if they have to move 4 spaces, they will use 4 AP, and then will not have enough AP to attack you. So you can kite every melee enemy in the game successfully provided you have enough ap, to attack and then move back each turn you have.

Later on you use that same mentality for gun fighting, the AI isnt advanced in this game so they attack like this. Find Target > Close to Range > Attack

Ideally when you are in a gun fight, you want to be able to kill one guy in the first round at least. But generally every gun fight can be dangerous except to a high level 10 endurance character.

In the early game, if you get a random encounter with people that attack you and they have guns, run away. Dont even try to take on encounters like that until you got some armour and combat skills.

You want to be hitting 95%(the max) of unaimed shots, and atleast 70% aimed headshots before you start taking on random encounters against armed enemies.

Obviously, if you come across unarmed encounters you should clean up the map for the XP since you need those skill points to get your skills up to be able to do things in this game.

You really need to read the Character Creation section of this walkthrough. This guy explains clearly and concisely exactly what works and what doesnt. Its extraordinarily easy to gimp your character in this game. Being fancy and creative for a character build should be left for role playing, AFTER you know how to play the game AND know what to expect during a playthrough.

thanks for the tip, i will definetly check that !
