Bankruptcy, a hostile takeover, and selling the rights to Bethesda.

We'll be seeing Wasteland 2 soon enough. Good enough for me.

Fallout 3 is great. And it's even better, i'm happy that they made fallout in first person, it's much more interesting and better game.

im all for a first person game, its just bethesda turned Fallout into something it wasnt, and in turn, Fallout 3 lost its (how can i describe it?) sense of what made Fallout so great

I think Fallout 3 got the tone of Fallout spot on. Sure it looks and plays a lot different but it's one of my favourite games.

id have to disagree, Fallout 3 was a little too...serious, it didnt really handle the series dark humor and pop references very well

now what made fallout so great in the frist place?
1.well for starters it was all about interaction
2.you spent bout 95% of the game in a town
3.the game was all about interacting and impacting society
4.it was a game that let you really go "♥♥♥♥ it, ima be a real ♥♥♥♥♥♥"
5.you could make even the most smallest of choices in dialogue, that would effect you for the rest of the game
6.solid storyline
7.memorable characters
8.both witty and smart

what did fallout 3 have?
1.well, it was all bout "Scavanging the wastes, gotta grab dat loot bruh!"
2.your actions felt insignificant and made only minor impacts
3.the story pushes you to be the "white knight in shining armor",
doesnt really want you to be that "real ♥♥♥♥♥♥"
4.ending was complete trash, infact, the entire story was complete trash
5.shot the canon to hell
7.most of the characters are uninteresting, (though Liam neeson is pretty awesome)
8.poor attempt at being smart and clever

dont get me wrong, fallout 3 is a good game
but a good rpg? no, it was quite average
a good Fallout game? absolutely not

I liked seeing references to 1 and 2, like Harold and the G.E.C.K. I never really played an evil character so I can't really argue with you there. I see what you mean about insignificant choices as well; sure you can blow up Megaton but you still have to save Capital Wasteland. I honestly like all Fallout games though (except for BOS that game suuuucked) and I like to see "what happened" to different parts of the world. It's cool to think that in New Vegas you never even know what happened in D.C, or that the NCR was indirectly founded by a stranger from a vault years ago. I can see why you think it's not a good rpg, but I think its a great fallout game.

IMO, New Vegas is the closest we got to having proper Fallout 3.

there will never be any proper, true continuation of Fallout. this is a fact that all concerned have to accept. I gave up on waiting long ago, and buried Fallout deep in my heart away from impostors who exploit the wasteland. they can't fool me, even if they go by the same name (F3, new vegas, wasteland2)

I know this is a late comment but I would liek to say I throughly enjoyed fallout 1 and while it does have its pros, I and a million others would never have known the Fallout franchise if it were not for Fallout 3. Plus it is important for a game franchise to adapt to changing times or it will be left in the dust which I'm glad bethesda did because Fallout 3 is perhaps my number 1 game of all time.

You can blame Interplay for torpedoing Black Isle.

Fallout 3 was a good game, but not really a Fallout game. New Vegas felt much more like a Fallout game.
No, I'm not an expert on the first two games, as you can see I only have 2 hours on the first. This is just what I've heard from people who have played the first two.

Fallout New Vegas seems like a continuation of the Fallout series. Fallout 3, however great, felt more like a 'spin-off' than anything. Fallout NV incorporated many of the factions and stuff that was going to be present in Van Burren, and apparently even had ome of the same people working on it.
ALT08 Nov 12, 2013 @ 11:34pm
well, several elements of VB lore found their way into new vegas - cesaer's legion, joshua graham, BOS/NCR relations. locations are somewhat similar too.

regardless, its pretty safe to say new vegas is as legitimate a continuation of FO1/2 as obsidian could manage. if they wanted to give van buren a go when bethesda granted them a game, they could've.

I don't think many people these days would be willing to play a game like FO1 and 2, simply becasue of the style. People seem to play FPS' way more than anything else, so a game styled like the previous Fallout games isn't going to get enough love.
