Okay a friend from steamgifts.com helped me and now all is well :) i used these .
F2_Restoration_Project_2.2.exe for Fallout 2.
Fallout FIXT, alpha 6.1 - Full Custom.exe then this -> Fallout_FIXT_alpha-6.3.1_PATCH.exe for Fallout 1 and all is good :) can run dx9, 1366x768 and 32 bit &full screen with no more corrupted cutscenes/movies.
That old lady in Jedi robes in the F2 cutscene so funny haha she has a pistol on the table and a bong to her left xD now that's epic englightment xD.

for fallout 1

I'll edit when I find the stuff for 2.

*EDIT* took about another 3 minutes of googleing but here is the direct link
http://www.killap.net/fallout2/patches/unofficialFO2patch.exe found on page
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=704 (instead of hunting for a torrent

I'm in the same boat. Been meaning to play these for a long time and steam sale today said Yes you will finally buy them. ;)

This worked a treat. Thanks
Hey guys.

Just got Fallout too after waiting for the sale :D

Here's how I got it working on my Win7 (32bit) w/o any patches or mods to the game:

  • In your Steam library right click on the Fallout entry and select "Properties"
  • Go to "Local Files" => "Browse local files"
  • Right click on the falloutw.exe and once again select "Properties"
  • Go to the "Compatibility" tab
  • Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP SP3" (might work with others too or even without this option, but this was how I had set it when it worked for me)
  • Also check *ALL* the other compatibility options ("Run in 640x480", "Run with 256 colors" and all of the those
  • Check the "Run as administrator" as well
  • Click "OK"
  • Go back into Steam and run the game

I just tried this with Fallout 1 and now it's working fine for me, maybe this'll help the one or the other too :fhappy:

Sorry this isn't relevant but it wasn't made over 20 years ago. It was released it 1997 which was currently 16 years ago.

That stuff dont work for most of us bro :) on win 7
I DID MANAGE TO FIX ALONE, the Rainbow Color bug BUT SINCE IT MESSED UP THE CUT SCENES/MOVIES, I HAD to get those fixes.

How to fix the RAINBOW COLOR only, but messes up cutscenes/movies :) some people are okay with that :| weird & sadly :).
You change in the DDRAW.INI the "Mode=0" to 4 ( for DX9 Full Screen and 5 for window modeDX9 ) also edit resolution to how much you want :) in the Fallout1 & 2 i think its in the same ddraw.ini or the other one,at Width & Height i thikn :) i have 1366x768 on Laptop
Well, cutscenes working fine here and no more rainbow colors.

Some of us bro are real gamers yeap ,not casuals,i did try to use compatibility as i always do when i run into these obstacles, and run as administrator etc :) and disabling Windows aero themese though i think i already had taht one disabled etc :) .
But as i said,if people edit the ddraw.ini like i did to try fix the game without teh patches ( though they are fine,i scanned with www.virustotal.com all the files that were under 20 megabytes and it's okay, those dudes are fine and wouldn't risk doing that stuff with viruses etc XD + next to the 30-40 or 40-50 forgot ,antiviruses on the site,i have a great one too ,Microsoft Security Essentials the free one XD )
So with my fix,the Movies & Cut scenes are broken, very broken. Even though resolution will be fine & no more rainbow colors.
Thats why i used Fallout Restoration Project 2.2 (for Fallout2) and for Fallout 1 FIXT 6.1 then 6.3.1 i think and i saw a few days ago latest was 6.4.0 so used that one too.
And they have lots of fixes ,i use the full one don't customize it ,maybe after first gameplays finnished i can tweak but neah.
