HV Weight distribution
Curious how weight distribution works in EGS. I have my harvest container on the last HV i just built sitting to the right of the vehcile, and after mining some ore and rock it wants to roll over on its lid to the right. I managed to limp it back to my base holding the level button but even stationary without me in it and nowhere near where i mined the ore it still wants to roll over.

Figure its either a bug as hovering can be a bit buggy at times, or because my vehicle is light it needs to be re-designed to drive properly fully loaded (cool problem to have!)

The thing i have found that makes the most difference in rolling over now is making sure that you spread out your hover engines as much as possible. HV's with a rectangular "footprint" shape get unbalanced and roll easier than square footprint ones. You dont have to change the total shape of your vehicle, you can get the effect by putting steel pipes or columns out from the corners and sides of the HV to have hover engines a couple blocks out from the main vehicle body. It does serious wonders for making the HV stable vs rolling over, especially if you like putting turrets on HV's.

you have to do some tinkering to get the engines placed just right on a mining HV though, to make it stable and able to dig with it, but not making it too bulky for maneuvering in tunnels. ( I found that when mining with HV's, they handle much better at around 1.5m hover height )

Ok cool good to know. Just to clarify, if i make a vehcile thats balanced but put the harvest container to the very right of the vehicle, will it lean/tip to the right when its full?
fullness is unlikely to have anything to do with it. Just having the HV not center-balanced is what causes it.. it just becomes an exaggerated problem after using the harvester, ive seen the same behavior on drill setups that arent perfectly centered, after doing some drilling

Awesome thanks a lot
I had the same issue and just moved the harvest boxes to the back of my hv and it fixed the issue. But now i just use the premade BP that is automatically in your BP list. It works great.

It's alot of fun fine tuning a mining HV to your liking. I've modified mine three or four times now adding some weight to balance it better. And damn mining is a breeze now. When I first started I thought there was tons of ore but I realize now that a well built HV can eat through ore no probs.
Take your time have fun! Best part is you can always save your BP for later use so all your hard work is stored for future planets or playthroughs.

Working on my first SV now and MAN I'm hooked. It's a sign of addiction if your thinking about playing after work the moment you wake up lol.

So much fun. I've tried countless games of all genres over the years. These devs deserve alot of credit.

Yeah i think i ran into a bug, happened a couple times since but i do need to re-balance my ship. Originally i was thinking the ore that went into my container was making the ship heavy on 1 side after mining but if i use the booster and go up in the air it lands and fly's smooth.

How do you guys balance your miners? Do you ahve them so they naturally are front down, or keep them perfectly level?

100% agreed on the fun part. Havent used any pre-made bp's as building ships is the main reason im playing the game. Steep learing curve, in a good way though!

I have the same problem. I built 2 HVs and before you start mining all works. But when you start mining for some reason it rolls over even on its belly up. Figured i was doing something wrong. Counter weights just decreased the roll rate.

So downloaded 2 blueprint Hvs the "pro miner" and both "Lady bugs", Well Pro miner was fun but on a PVPplanet i trashed it on the second resource node- literally broke it apart- didnt know slaming against walls brakes it. The long lady bug has 2 harvester boxes and if the right fills it tips to the right.

So far the small lady bug seems working but boy it loves to roll on its roof.

If you guys say square is the option here than my rectangle Hvs need a make over. Any opinions are welcomed regarding this roll-over problem currently. Maybe you have a good HV to download?!

I'll upload mine when I get a chance. I find it works fairly well but it's my first attempt at a HV.

From my experience mining I've found that digging a large surface area and trying to keep the ground as level as possible while digging helps. Most of the roll comes from an uneven ground I think.

I use the artifical weights and put 2-4 of them on the lowest part of the HV and wide so they act as a keel and keep the cg low. Seems to work quite well.
harvest storage boxes are one of the heaviest HV components and really need to be centered on the HV and not to the left or right of center.

Seems like a bug to me, when they roll after drilling ore/chopping trees. Because like Vex mentioned, once I right the vehicle with "O" or hover-boost, it stays stable until i mine/harvest again.

For mining hv's you also have to be very careful about your hover height when tunneling, or the hover engines start fighting with the size of the tunnel and you end up rolling around like you are water going down the drain, lol.

I had the same problem. I used the tier 1 stock HV blueprint and stuck the harvest box on the left side towards the rear. Had tilting problems until I removed it and put in in the middle towards the front, between my two drills. Now it works fine.

Same place I set my harvest box and it seems to work well. Generally I try to keep the ground under me as even as possible and rolling isnt too much of an issue
