Crash with Linux
Hello,

after I received the permission and would like to enter Saschas brain the game crashes. What is wrong?

OS is Kubuntu 13.04, 64-Bit with NVIDIA GTX 650TI, 8GB Ram, AMD Athlon II X3 435.

Howdy. There can be numerous reasons for crashes. The first things to do are update system drivers, verify the game cache, or reinstall the game. After that, toggle off graphic settings and see if that allows you to proceed. If none of these works, let me know.

Hello,

many thanks for the fast reply. I turned all options off and updated the drivers. The game is freshed installed but nothing works.
Can I get a log or console output somehow?

You can if you start Steam from the command line. E,g, "steam | tee -a output.log" to output both to console and a log file.

Same Problem here. Using NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-304.88 driver and Ubuntu 12.04...


I used the German version. After changing the Language to English it works again. It seems that there are missing translations for some cutscenes (see http://steamcommunity.com/app/3830/discussions/0/864975249412768282/)

Go where Psychonauts is installed.
cd ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Psychonauts/WorkResource/cutscenes/prerendered
Then do
for f in ./*; do ln -s "$f" "$(echo $f | tr '[:upper:]' '[:lower:]')"; done

Dear developers, I have one simple question:



WHY DON'T YOU FIX THIS STUPID BUG WHICH HAS BEEN A KNOWN BUG ON ALL LINUX MACHINES WITH A LOCALIZED LANGUAGE SETTING SINCE 2 YEARS (AT LEAST) ????


The only thing you have to do is to rename all files in the cutscenes folder from uppercase filenames to lowercase filenames. I have done that on my system as suggested by the previous poster and now everything is fine (if not double-fine). Why aren't you able to do such a minor, simple, little bugfix and upload it into the steam cloud???

Same probleme with the cutscenes... and the command line you give, beaobast and Klev, works very well. Thanks to all ! :)
A lot of Mac and Linux users (myself included) have been dealing with crashes preventing the game from starting for a year now. I got news from DF Forum staff in February that said they were gonna start looking into it. So far, no updates.

Still no fix? I have run it on Ubuntu 20.04 and Manjaro latest.. Issue is still there.

Please fix this!

I play it in German and I fixed it like that:

  1. Change the language from german to english at the "Steam/steamapps/common/Psychonauts/Psychonauts.ini" with an editor.
  2. Got to "Steam/steamapps/common/Psychonauts/WorkResource/Localization" and rename the folder "English" to "English.bak". Then rename "German" to "English".
  3. Got to "Steam/steamapps/common/Psychonauts/WorkResource/Sounds/German", copy all files there and paste them on the parent folder "Steam/steamapps/common/Psychonauts/WorkResource/Sounds"

Now it is still German, but some scenes which don't have any localized sounds for german will be in english.

The issue is here and why it crash, is that there is no sound file for this scene and it crashes then.

At least it would be preferable to fill this gap and add an exeption since I would not expect that there will be any time soon in the future an localized sound file.
