Linux Version - Crashes after INTRO.bik Cutscene
When starting the game I see "Assembling shaders..." followed by the Double Fine Productions animation (logo.bik). After this I have tried both watching and skipping the Intro cutscene (INTRO.bik) after which I get a 100% reproduction rate of my computer hard locking (freezing). I have tried verifying my game cache at least 3 times after which it wants to reacquire 1765 files which I shrug off and allow to happen because I love this game.

After reinstalling my OS from a new installation media (just in case), reinstalling my graphics drivers, reinstalling Steam, and installing Psychonauts I still run into the same problem. I had this game working on this computer before with way less hassle but now what's up?

Please note that the game ran fine (aside from receiving joystick input when there was none; "sudo rmmod joydev" fixed that) up until an OS, graphics driver, and Steam reinstall which was necessary due to some problems rooted in another program.

It's as though the game is teasing me. DFLogo.bik plays. Then INTRO.bik plays. Next I hear crickets and without fail everything crashes. I've even tested while playing music in the background (it stutters and then stops shortly after I hear crickets and my computer stops reacting). This is being posted from a fully functional overlay I have disabled and gotten the same result (obviously enabled afterwards).

I'm sorry you're experiencing trouble in getting Psychonauts to run on your machine. I've checked your system specs and unfortunately your machine is below the system requirements. The Linux requirements are not listed on the Store page but they are equivalent to the Mac minimum requirements:

Processor: Intel Core Duo Processor
Memory: 2 GB of RAM
Graphics: ATI X1600 / NVIDIA 8600GT / Intel HD3000 or better card with at least 128 MB VRAM
Hard Drive: 4GB minimum hard drive space
Controls: Keyboard and Mouse

I had it running fine on my last Ubuntu 12.04 install. This is most definitely a software problem because my hardware ran it until the software changed (OS reinstall).

Even more proof that it's a software issue is the fact that I can run a Psychonauts Humble Bundle build I have from 5/31/2012 great up until Oleander is about to take me into his mind.

I am so freakishly confused. I just uninstalled my Humble Bundle Copy of Pyschonauts and played another of my Linux games for a few hours before going to bed. I got up, installed the new Steam Client Beta and thought "Screw it, why not try running Psychonauts now?" and now Psychonauts runs (sort of; Raz isn't all there in that all I see is the face portion of his character model).
