Game crashing at transitions

have had a couple of crashes and this was the latest. have it running as windows xp and as admin with vsync off. let me know if there is anything else you need.

I've had similar problems on 64 bit windows 7. I think it's just ram usage. Not much you can do. maybe turn down the quality? I have it on the non steam version as well and that's a lot worse.

yeah and it seems some of the effects crash it too, like shooting a box caused a crash once, but other than that it seems to be the loading screens or transitions that does it

so I started running it at Windows 98 compatability and the crashes stopped and achievements still unlocked.

I was getting pretty frequent crashes until I set the game to only use 1 CPU. After playing fine for a while I started getting a 100% crash when exiting the main lodge, which was only fixed by setting the compatibility of the game to Windows 98. Will report back if I have any more crashes.

Mine crashed in my MacBoock at the start of the second stage. I then played it on an iMac and worked :S

Well I managed to finish the game with no more crashes. Could have just been luck, though.

For anyone who wants to create a shortcut that starts the game on only 1 CPU, instead of having to set it manually in the task manager every time, create a batch file with "start /affinity 1 Psychonauts.exe" as its contents and place it in the same folder as the Psychonauts .exe, then create a shortcut that points to that batch file and place it wherever you'd like.

You can open it with notepad to see that it's safe.

You also don't need to set the compatibility on the batch file to Windows 98, only on the Psychonauts .exe. Windows will save that information in the registry and apply the compability no matter what way the program is launched.

The strange thing is: i played this game without any issue in the past, both with my old retail copy and my GoG one. This problem is presenting itself just on Steam.

it seems to only happen on certain transitons for me where it starts off with a in-game cutscene; such as when you jump out of the airplane in Basic Braining.
