The price of an average AAA title (Not ones like GTA, Destiny, or Call of Duty etc) about 20-30 million. People may see that as alot but I think people really fail to consider what goes into making a game with a full company, and not just a rag tag group of indie devs. Maybe small town joe with his slightly better than min-wage salary could make a decent game for under 2 million, but could Double Fine with their average team of about 20-30 people(per game, not the whole company) who are paid to support their families and not just themselves, would be paid more, and as such the game would cost more.
I think Notch being the small team guy kind of failed to take this into consideration, along with voice acting, marketing, art direction, and a bunch of other things he didn't have to deal with in Minecraft because it is a different kind of game. But oh well, we'll just have to hope that maybe we'll see fusion Kickstarter/Publisher deals that could make a Psychonauts 2 possible.
