Very annoying framerate and sound stuttering issue
I know there probably won't be any replies to this, but it's worth a shot.

This game is awesome, but unfortunately I can't play due to an audio issue that's ruining the experience. The dialogue between the characters is ruined due to the annoying popping and skipping, which comes and goes randomly.

I've tried every fix I could find, and none of them seemed to work. Almost all the open AL download links are dead (the files I found did not work), tweaking the sound ini didn't help, and win 95 compatibilitly did nothing. How can I fix this issue?

Any ideas?

I checked and it seems it might be up to date already. The version number I have is DX 11.0, which seems to be the latest version for Windows 7, but correct me if I'm wrong.

Try right click on the game - "properties" - "local files" - "verify integrity of game cache". sometimes it works. And check for old Microsoft Visual C++, sometimes they cause problems, even if they're not really related to the original problem

I've already done the verify cache thing, didn't seem to do anything.

Guys, I think I've found a fix that worked! I found an open AL link that wasn't dead, where you can download a more recent version. It's here: http://openal.org/creative-installers/
It doesn't seem to be a virus. Start off by downloading oalinst.zip, extract the file inside the zip to a folder to be safe, and click on the exe to install it (it only takes less than a second). Then find openal32.dll on your computer in "C:\Windows\system32". Now all you have to do is copy the dll. file into the Psychonauts directory which is in:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common" and overwrite any files when prompted. Then you should be good to go.

For now, it seems to be working well for me. There is the occasional half-second audio hiccup here and there, but it's not nearly as bad as it was before. It's totally unintrusive, and now I can finally play this awesome game. I am hopeful that this fix stays, I will update if anything comes up.
