Game minimizes on start up (no found solution works)

OH MY GOD, I am just so frustrated at this point. The only way for me to play the game is for me to change the resolution of my entire monitor to 1280 x768 and change it back when i quit the game. it's such a pain in the ♥♥♥ to do every time i want to play the damn game. Yes, i have read most if not all the forum topics on here about the game screen going black and minimizing immediately on startup. Yes, i have also tried most if not all of the solutions in those forums to get the game to start properly, none of which work. I've tried going into the game's properties in the Steam client and changing the w/h (both to -w 1280 and -w 800) neither of which work. I've also tried changing the resolution in game once i get it to start, quitting, and trying to open it again. same ♥♥♥♥. I've tried running it as administrator, chaning the OS compatibility to 98 AND 95. still nothing. Also just tried verifying my game cache. nada.

Windows 7 home 64 bit
MSI Z87-G45 mobo
Intel Core i5-4670k
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760
1920 x1200 monitor

any DIFFERENT suggestions to a fix would be great.
