sound effects?
Is there supposed to be any sound effects in this game? I'm playing on Linux, and I hear only music. If I turn the music volume down, I hear nothing.

Hello adolson,

yes there are sound effects in the game and they should be working without any problem.

I heard about this problem before, not only about Bard's Gold but also other games.

Please run the game file "runner" instead of running it from Steam and check if the SFX works. If it does work, you might wanna check the problem over google.

Something like this maybe would help : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=173528

Thanks for the reply. I did some digging and found that if I delete the libopenal from the Steam runtime, the sound effects work. This also is the case with Super Star Path. Both games would give me music, but no effects. Wish there was a more elegant solution, as I suspect the next Steam update will replace the deleted lib.

Thanks for posting your solution. It might help other Linux users incase they have the same problem .

Not sure if I should start a new thread on this, but I am having the same issue and the fixes above do not seem to fix the problem.

When initating the game from the game's install directory:
/home/xxx/.steam/steamapps/common/Bard's Gold

Sound effects == OK
MUSIC == OK

When initiating the game from the steam:

Sound Effects == FAIL
MUSIC == OK

I looked at the above link, and the solutions listed there were more specific to ARCH rather then Ubuntu 14.04

Any help would be appreciated...

Will also try to run the game from a Syber Steam Machine P (running SteamOS) as well as another Linux based system I have to see if the issues replicate on those as well.

UPDATE 2017-02-25

- Mint 18: Sound effects do work for this machine/logitech controller fails
- Ubuntu 16.04: Sound effects fail
- Native SteamOS on Syber Steam Machine P: Sound effects fail, steam controller works

Overall a very hit/miss experience with controller configuration and getting the sound effects to work properly. Is there any chance the sound/controller instability will be sorted. I was thinking of actually reviewing this game, and while it is a decent game, because of these issues I may have to hit that thumbs down on it.

it says the segmentation fault but i keeps running without effects sounds, when I run the ,/runner it works with out the steamapi but it has both music and effects. I noticed that the runner application uses wine.

I don't know if there was a section back when I posted this. I don't know why a mod didn't move it yet.

Maybe...
You should fix the game itself? Seems It demands 32bit libs for 64bit OS. You did something wrong. Is there a way that you compile binary in better way that does not requires linux users to sudo stuff (

Sorry for harsh words... but I am just hating to leave Steam Big Picture Mode.
