Steam key for kickstarters?
Hi,
I am a kickstarter of technolust. I received my Oculus store key two weeks ago. Is there a way to get a steam key too, or do I have to buy the game separateley on steam?

I'm interested in this as well. I would prefer to not have to install Oculus Home. I intentionally haven't redeemed my Oculus Home key in the hopes that it can be deactivated and exchanged for a Steam key.

Oculus Home must be installed for the Rift to work. That goe's for any game you want to play on the Rift, not just this one. Unfortunatly keys can't be "deactivated" as far as I know either. Kind of stuck. To be honest, I just put the game up on steam so that people without credit cards could purchase it.

Thanks for the response. Well I'll leave the key as-is for now, and hope for a future possibility then. By the way, are you thinking about supporting the Vive in the future as well?

What about the opposite scenario? I want all my Oculus games on Oculus Home so I don't have to take the headset off, start Steam, manually start the game, and put the headset back on to play- But I don't have a credit card. Can Steam owners get an Oculus Home key?

I agree this would be ideal.. I'm hoping that Oculus will allow you to put your games in home eventually, just like you can do with steam. It's really not in my best interest to give you multiple keys. Though I think I can set up steam just to sell the keys.

I'm going to look into that. May be possible.

I was a kickstarter, and got the Oculus Home key. However, I don't like Oculus Home, and I only use it to play this game. It would be super cool if you could generate steam keys for those of us who want both, so we could launch from steam, have steam track the play time and other stats, and have cloud saves. Thanks for your consideration and for the awesome game! It's my favorite game on CV1 so far :).

Edit: I wanted to add, that almost every other game I bought (and especially kickstarted) has given Oculus Home and Steam keys, if the game is on both platforms. I'm not complaining, just telling you for your consideration. Thanks again ^_^.

It's also free for developers to create Steam keys, but some are afraid of piracy when given two keys from seperate stores. That's usually why Valve is known to work with developers to integrate a form of account sync from a developer's forum, giving the possibility to activate a Steam game once for every registered user that already has an Oculus Home account. This way keys aren't being generated, but instead synced. A good example of this was for the developer of Elite Dangerous, "Frontier".
I know the risk of piracy when the devs give multiple keys, but this is still the only Rift game I've gotten where the dev refuses to give keys for both platforms. I think the kickstarter backers who want steam keys would be more likely to leave positive steam reviews if we got keys anyway.
