Possible to go prone?

For some reason, I can only get my guy to crouch. I see Up and Down buttons, but I'm not sure if that's what they're for. Is it possible to go prone? Also, on my very first UFO mission and I'm getting my butt whipped. The aliens see farther than me and shoot this chemical gas stuff that one-shots my guys.

Also, is it possible to revive unconscious troops? They seem to die after a few turns.

If it's anything like X-Com, the up/down is for flying units. In the original X-Com, unconscious troops need immediate medical attention if you want them to survive. (MedKit)

The up/down buttons are for using the elevators and for he flying units. You can't make your units to go prone, just crouch.

Those floating slug-like aliens in the beginning missions are annoying as hell with their gas grenade launchers. The upside is, they're dispatched with a single hit from a rifle or shotgun.

Don't bother trying to treat your fallen soldiers with the beginning stimpacks, which are useless for treating critical wounds. Stimpacks are only good for treating superficial wounds, which is best done during the lulls between encounters on the mission site. You won't be able to start treating fallen - i.e. critically wounded - soldiers until you've researched and produced medkits.

Try equipping your soldiers with multiple personal shields. They're a little expensive, and they burn out after absorbing damage, but they help to keep your soldiers alive, especially in those beginning missions. For those missions, I found it best to keep equipped a soldier with two personal shields if they're armed with a rifle or a rocket launcher (since I tend to use them to engage the enemy at medium to long range), and a soldier with three personal shields if they're armed with a shotgun or a laser pistol (since I tend to use them to charge in and engage the enemy at close range).

Are you sure that those Energy Shields stack?

My xp so far tells me that they don't. I could be mistaken though...

Yep, energy shields stacks. I personaly put as many of them as I can in my backpack and other slots.

Well I'll be damned. I tried stacking them when I was just starting, and it didn't seem to work.

Guess I just got the hell knocked out of a couple of my peeps.
