tips for color gathering!
I have tried many times to complete this game and i find myself everytime stuck by shortage of color. I think im doing something wrong, when i donate color to a tree i feel they return almost the same quantity to me.

Please share your tips to have a successfully gathering of color!

Trees will return slightly more color than you give, but how generous the tree is in return depends on what you do when you 'plant' your tree. There are also several other techniques you can use to keep your color flowing. Don't worry about following ALL of these rules at the beginning of the game. Eventually you'll get to a point where you can utilize all of them.

Firstly, be sure to learn to draw your Donor glyph correctly. Reload until you perfect your technique, and always make sure you fill the tree to the brim. The less you give, the less you will get, and the less you will get when the tree renews in the future. Rotate your crops. You are a farmer, afterall. Don't go grand-mal color crazy with new trees. Plant only what you need. You'll get to a point in the game where fresh color is rare (even in Veins), and you are relying strictly on your gardens. You'll be glad you have new trees to plant.

Be sparing when you instigate 'conversation/donation' with trees and Sisters. It only takes 1 or 2 units of color to initiate interaction. Always use whatever color you have the most of to do this. Don't waste 10 color to talk to a Sister or plant a tree.

Something that might confuse players is the fact that when Ava lectures you about Silver, something gets lost in translation. Silver does NOT harm the realms. It will actually keep damage from occuring to the realms, and will slow the appearance of monsters that will steal your color and drain the landscape. Make sure you have Silver in your hearts when you donate ANYTHING once you obtain Silver. Trees and Sisters. Covet Silver. Always keep a little Silver Lympha on standby.

Before donating to trees, fill your hearts with Azure and Violet. Azure will speed up the donation process. Violet will make the tree fill using less Nerva. Fill up your hearts with Azure, Violet and Gold when you are filling a Sister's heart. Always make sure these colors are accompanied by hearts with Silver.

Do your best to advoid enemies who will drain your color. In fact, try to advoid enemies as much as possible. Keep realms healthy by putting Silver in your hearts. Use your Shell glyph (O) if you see you're about to be attacked.

Gather color from the native creatures. Some are easier and less wasteful to obtain color from than others (such as the Fireflies). Some of the monsters will drop color when you kill them, but they are oftentimes more trouble than they are worth. Try to advoid killing monsters as much as possible.

Use Amber to help convert Lympha faster, but be cautious so that it doesn't leak into the Void. Use math. Watch your numbers. Once you garner your 21st heart, you won't have to worry about leaking color into the Void, so you want to gather hearts as quickly as possible. This mostly involves killing Brothers.

WATCH the Brothers. Map out a harvesting route so they can't drink your gardens dry. Use Azure in your hearts and on the Void map to travel fast. Watch their movements. Get to your gardens before they do. Rotating trees is also for dropping color so you can absorb new Lympha if a Brother threatens one of your more bountiful gardens. Kill them all, as soon as you're able, and the entire Void will be your oyster.

Brothers are UNABLE to drink from untapped (un-mined) Veins. Don't stress about untapped color. Wait for the color to build up before you tap it, and don't stray too far from your newly tapped Vein until after a few cycles of draining it.

This is a VERY tough game. It hands you NOTHING. It took me a long while to beat, but you can do it if you keep at it. Good luck!

wow!, those are very good tips!, im replaying the game right now, thank you!
No problem!

Just be sure you make new saves often. (You can only save in the Void!)

Don't get too disheartened if you find you keep making mistakes. You will make mistakes in this game. LOTS of mistakes. Metric fu**-tons of mistakes. Sometimes even a couple of mistakes will detriment you. They'll paint you in a corner so tight that you'll realize you are no longer painting the floor with paint, but with lava. Just accept failure and re-load a previous save so you can try a different strategy. This game is complete white-knuckle strategy simply due to the color mechanic, and the farther you get the more you feel it.

The original title of The Void is "Tension"; you'll have certainly experienced that by the end of the game!

Crop Rotation. You know, the way farmers in real life will rotate crops on fields to stretch out the usage of nutrients in a plot of land, and to give the fields a 'rest' between cultivations. :)

Doing Crop Rotation on trees is fairly easy - when you open a new garden, don't dump Nerva on every tree you see. Strategically place what colors you require on only a small number of trees in the garden.

This will:

a) Cause LESS DAMAGE to the garden - especially if your hearts are full of Silver.
b) Spawn FEWER MONSTERS, or no monsters at all. (I actually went through an entire game without any monsters spawning in a handful of my gardens due to careful farming of trees.)
c) Give you 'back-up' areas to (as I stated above) drop Nerva so you can absorb new Lympha if a Brother is threatening your garden (or if you're in a state of dreaded 'overflow').

Basically, as you may have noticed in the game, Brothers are sneaky b***ards that will go behind your back and leech the Lympha out of your gradens when you're not looking. Paying attention to where the Brothers are going on the map is VITAL to your survival. If you don't pay attention, a Brother can swoop right into a garden ripe and full of Color (Lympha), ready to be harvested, and consume every last drop. You're welcome to try to remove him, but he'll just swat you away like a fly.

(You CAN set TRAPS at some of the gardens to repell brothers; however, you must use quite a bit of color on the traps, and not all the gardens have them. I recommend using traps only as an initial line of defense for your BEST gardens.)

Early in the game, you will find that you can 'overflow' with Nerva. Before you have your 21st heart, it will simply overflow from your Lympha nodes into the Void (as the only way you can process color from Lympha to Nerva is while sitting in the Void) - which is VERY wasteful. You're basically draining yourself of all your Lympha when you do that (and thus, draining yourself of Life).

After you gather your 21st heart, this 'overflow' no longer happens; however, you will not be able to gather any more Lympha of a color when your Lympha node for that color fills until you remove some of your Nerva, as there is no more room for the processed Lympha to go. So, you'll be 'backed up', instead of 'overflowing'.

The best way to remove Nerva for EITHER situation ('overflow' or 'backup') is by either a) feeding Sisters or b) planting trees.

It is a HORRIBLE situation when you see you're almost to the point of 'overflow' or 'backup' and you see a Brother stealthing towards one of your ready-to-be-harvested gardens. You want to harvest the Lympha they're heading towards, but you have no room, and you need to make it to the garden before they do. So you rush to your garden-in-danger like the Roadrunner on speed and clickclickclick on the realm node and hope for the best.

If you DID NOT ROTATE your crops, you will have NO trees to 'dump' your excess Nerva on so you can go 'pick up' the fresh Color in your garden. You'll be sitting there, surrounded by trees filled to the brim with no way to 'get' it, because your Lympha nodes are full and you can't dump Nerva because there are no empty trees you can paint on. At that point, you'll have to either accept defeat - leave the garden, and let the Brother manhandle it - or reload a save.

Not following a strategy of Crop Rotation is one of the easiest ways, by the way, to paint yourself into a corner.

Edit: Oh, I actually forgot to add -- you're going to have to be able to juggle Lympha in your hearts in order to effectively deal with 'overflow' and 'backup'. This is fairly easy to do when you're about to go into 'overflow', because you probably won't have much of the overflowing color in your hearts (if at all). Doing this during a 'backup' can be a bit trickier, but you just have to trade out colors that you have the least Lympha for for the ones you need to dump Nerva for.

Just make sure that if you do need to spend some time generating Nerva after you dump your Color to make room to gather more Lympha, you fill your hearts with lots of AMBER. This way, if a Brother is near your garden, but is still a few seconds away, you will process Color into Nerva very quickly when you momentarily step back into the Void. Then you just have to click back on the garden right away before the Brother snatches it up, and you'll have room in your hearts/Lympha nodes to spare.

Khyle, have you considered writing a guide for this game? It sounds like you're quite qualified to do so.

Seconded
I'd been thinking about it. It's a matter of finding time to do so, though.

If I do, I'll definitely let people know.
That makes sense. And regardless of what you end up doing, thanks for all you've done already!
Even with all that Khyle has said, it still feels overwhelming. The game is great, but there is hardly room for error. My first playthrough I didn't make it very far, because I wasn't making the donor symbol correctly on trees, thus having a weak first garden. Which was fixed in my second one when I realized I was doing it wrong. (I turned on subtitles that tells you your donor symbol is wrong, without subtitles you wouldn't know otherwise).
My second playthrough I made it to I think Cycle 8. Having 6 hearts, but I still ran out of color. I had just opened the mines too.

The other sisters to get a new garden take way too much color to unlock... and by the time you can go and see them, your trees will be tapped. Which is another thing I wonder on, I've never made it far enough to where a tree that has "died", come back to life. Will it be an empty tree? Or will it be as strong as when you grew it?

Steam just released "Steam Guides" so if you are doing one you can use that :P
Now that "Steam Guides" exist, I might take some time to create a few guides. It seems like you guys might really get good use out of them.

I completely won't lie: it is excrutiatingly overwhelming. It is a great game, but you're absolutely correct. There's hardly room for error. NO room for error, really. Learning how to draw the symbol correctly is one of those things you need to focus on first, before proceeding with the rest of the game. Literally. Make a save, go into a garden, practice filling trees, re-load, rinse, repeat.

Having subtitles on through this game is a good idea, anyway. Some things aren't spoken/translated well. Having subtitles on will assist you in processing information better.

Sisters do take massive amounts of color to get anywhere with them. Always, ALWAYS make sure you have Gold, Silver and Violet in your hearts when feeding a Sister. Always make sure you have Silver and Violet in your hearts when feeding a Tree. It will help a lot in the long-run.

When a Tree dies and re-cycles, it will be both an Empty Tree and a tree that is NOT as strong when you re-grow it. You get less and less color from trees the more times you re-grow them. This is another important reason why you should rotate your gardens. You get trees that give massive quantities of color later on, but only later on.
i'm very late, but i love searching tips for those type of game and being like "uh.... i keep dying at the tutorial then, since every tips that are given here, i have never heard "Veins" ? what are those ? You can collect color from firefly ?? Avoid ennemy? but doesn't the sister ask you to kill them at the begining ?
"Gather color from the native creatures" Native creatures exist in the game? what ?

"Before donating to trees, fill your hearts with Azure and Violet." But what IF i don't have any hearth that use azure and violet?! like.. everytime i search, i feel overwhelm and be like "yeah i died multiple time on the tutorial, so maybe it's to hard for me"

I keep dying IN the tutorial because i lack color, i was only searching how to gather color more, and even with all of those tips, i don't understand HOW you can survive the tutorial, because almost every tips you give, can't be done early

And it's not JUST you but i have a perfect other example of people going way to much in depth because they forgot how they started the game : when you speak about the filling the heart with violet at 100% before growing a tree.... You mean before, or after the tutorial ? because when i kept dying due to LACK OF COLOR at the VERY BEGINING, i don't have any violet heart.. The most i had was THREE. The gold emerald, and the one who make you run faster.

Hello! (please translate my answer; although I can write in English, it is complicated for me and the answer or initial mini guide that I want to make is long)-- was this game on Steam a decade ago? I would like to know from the date of 2012 that the first comments have... (I don't usually use Steam almost at all regarding reading reviews or buying games, I found out that the game was here by searching for it on Twitch if there was someone who played it on today. At the time I bought it on Gog 4 years ago). --
VERY BEGINNING OF THE GAME:
In that stream, which is the only one there is, and I as a ghost from cyberspace watching its respective vod (I always watch videos or listen to the soundtrack of this game more often than just from time to time), the player was left spending like 20 units of color only when selecting each sister or tree to interact with, as a result of the confusing tutorial that instead of helping confuses more. Even the Greek letter α (alpha) of the game's main glyph is strangely drawn on it. It is also true that the story is very confusing and the descriptions leave more questions than answers, also the voices of the colors mystify too much.
It is not explained at the beginning but it is almost vital to know what to carry on you (at almost any moment), in the hearts (any) of the character, this or that color, these give you their power in any type of interaction, such as feeding a sister, plant color in a tree, attack an enemy, move in the void...; and the effectiveness goes from 0 to 100 depending on whether you have up to 100 units of that color inside you (if you go too far, nothing will happen. At the end of the game, the sum of the capacities of the 21 hearts, if I remember correctly, is just enough to the 100 units of each color inside you, that is, 700 units and that would be your total life, ERGO, that is the number that you do not see the logic in but you know that it is your life when you die for not knowing how to understand the interface and then You realize that in the void the donut-shaped bar that was your life was exhausted and you see how the numbers go down with the default speed of the game and you see that that went down to 0 killed you...), and the same scheme The game's visual tells you this either for yourself or similarly when fighting with a brother. It is located in the lower left corner, either in the void or checking your character, and the levels of each color in you and the total life are verified by passing the cursor over each box or button (if you have maximum gold, it will be see golden integer) and it will say 100. It is a double semicircle superimposed on each other "wanting to symbolize" the game the movement of your own hearts being exposed to the outside while you move. It is mainly aesthetics of the game but its final meaning is also understood when realizing that when an enemy attacks you it is not always going to subtract the same color from you, nor is it very logical that an attack subtracts a unit divided into several, but only from some hearts and sometimes of a single color or its adjacent color. It's just questioning things a little; You receive an attack from a bat, and it can take away 12 units of violet or amber (assuming you have several colors inside you) and it will always vary. It is best understood when fighting with a Brother; His life bar and where his hearts are most exposed at a certain moment rotates in the upper right corner and while a certain color lights up, that is the one you should attack him with to do more damage only while he lights up. There are 3 rounds, first you finish with their most superficial hearts, then the most hidden ones, as in your own graph which is similar. They have the two semicircles like yourself and finally only 1 remaining color that would perfectly symbolize the main heart, that is, their Donor Glyph, very few "get" this and the same mistakes are repeated forever, since as they said it is exhausting. learning curve even halfway through the story if you don't know how to manage the resources or understand the mechanics.
Well, at the beginning there is only gold and emerald, that is why it is not so intuitive to explore the entire interface at the beginning because it is assumed simple, but if you do it and pass the cursor once you see yourself pressing 'B' (dark soul) You should notice it perfectly. Only in a vacuum does lympha become nerve, so if you moved, let's say, from a reserve to a mine or garden, leaving a heart full, you can see that the color inside it has completely disappeared or it is incomplete. You have to check the levels constantly, that's the whole point.
You are like an extensible complex, with the energy of colors within you and your branches from the donor glyph (supposedly) to store lymph and nerve (preserve) and (give). the very nature of your main heart, which is said to be forbidden knowledge, since it is forbidden to simply "give" forces you to convert color in its "pure" state, that is, lympha into nerve, which if you do not give is wasted in the void itself, which It is where the color is processed and transferred, from you to the nerve and from the nerve if it exceeds it, it is wasted in the void. the chambers (I don't know how to translate it into my own language, haha) is like a kind of standby and your color is safe from time, but you can't save. So Lympha = right, nerva = left. each heart (supposedly) branches towards lymph and nerve as well, because as you grab more in the story, your lymph and nerve capacity increases up to 300 in total for each color on both the lymph and nerve bars with all the hearts. to your credit at the end of the game.
You just have to control and click quickly to select Sisters or trees to interact with, if you do it like in the tutorial by pressing for a long time you will waste color in vain and you should realize that. drawing the donor gliph is easier than it seems and you can draw it calmly as long as you want on trees or if you want to give all your color to a sister by holding down ctrl and highlighting it again from back to front if you want the glyph drawn or leaving The cursor is pressed after the alpha has been drawn without releasing any, thus continuing to inject color. When drawing a tree, if you complete all of its color capacity, its life graph (the donut-shaped bar) will begin to flash and don't worry if it seems like you keep injecting color into it, the game will simply spend up to its limit (you can check it).
That colors, as they said, are essential in many circumstances, in my time I didn't care much about silver because I had no idea, but I was thinking about having violet at 100 in oneself when planting color in trees, since its function is make you spend less color when cultivating. It also has disadvantages when fighting, such as making you spend more color on your shots, so when fighting against the Brothers it is better not to have it equipped on your body. Each color has its advantages and disadvantages; The other main ones, gold makes you spend less when donating color to a Sister, but if you are loaded with it in the void you will be more likely to attract the Brothers to inspect your gardens and steal your crops. BY THE WAY, they have a kind of traps where you can deposit the color that you have left over in a garden that preferably you have just cultivated all its trees to the maximum, whose function is to scare away the Brothers who break in there and make them flee, protecting the investment made and It is useful later when you have to move throughout the void and cannot control what happens at the other end of the board.
Emerald at 100, maximum protection. disadvantage I don't remember. Crimson at 100, maximum efficiency of offensive power. Amber at 100 (be careful), it metabolizes incredibly fast (it only happens in a vacuum as the game explains) lympha in nerve, useful when you have just harvested a garden and the lympha of a certain color is at its limit and also your body cannot carry more ; Let 10 seconds of the game pass in a vacuum with maximum amber and a good amount will be processed. Maximum Azure gives you the highest possible speed when moving both in scenarios and in the void between chambers.
If you open a third heart of a sister even to explore new dialogues it is dangerous because her assigned Brother will chase you to a duel if she notices you in the void at a certain distance and it is difficult to escape.
You should not feed a Sister other colors that are not their own, they have 2 that are especially toxic to them and there is only 1 warning before they die if you insist.
!PRO tip ESSENTIAL: as soon as you leave a location or chamber, IMMEDIATELY press the number 1 on the keyboard, this sets the vacuum speed to the minimum, which can also be adjusted on the screw bar control. 2 is intermediate, useful if you know how to control the timing, and 3 is if you really want to die very quickly.
Donor glyph, the alpha letter, has a function in the scenarios, if you draw it it makes a ball that lasts as long as the color used, and if you place it in the path of a firefly it will remain consumed and while it does so the You can eat it literally and its color with right click. The bats and other scary things that jump and snort at you can be completely avoided, as can the testicular sacs with 3 eyes XD, those last ones can give you back the color you spent killing them (about 30 or so).
At the beginning you will not have all the colors nor the necessary amount to cycle correctly, but once stable you should always have 100 azure, silver, gold and violet in the lympha zone. So when entering a place place them in the body and when leaving return them to the lympha, otherwise, for example in case of filling the hearts of a Sister you will find that you cannot in any way have maximum efficiency and it will be a lot of color that you are going to waste in vain. Or when fighting with a brother you will have your speed at a minimum and your defeat is more than likely since it is the most important thing in that case, many chase you themselves or with their attacks.
Answering the last thing, it is not at all necessary to place the respective color of the heart, which according to the "haste" logic would be azure, there are many more, they serve in your body only to store it and up to 100 units of each one, dispersed among several of your hearts and apply its effect wherever you are; and in short, the total amount of color of all the colors that you have in your body is going to be your life at a given moment. The important thing is to take care of the color as best as possible and cycle and cultivate it as efficiently as possible. Never waste it by not controlling the speed bar traveling in the void or filling the trees with only one, or spending it on all the predators, or letting yourself be hit by many attacks, or not taking all the expected fireflies or color veins in the mines (especially at the beginning of the game you must meticulously see all the ones there are because they are the ones that give the most color), but later there will be a time when you only depend on your harvests of color in trees and it gets very difficult. Be careful not to give too much to the Sisters, because otherwise and this is the most serious thing when you are depending only on gardens, you will not have how to cultivate and lose a color depending later on minor forms such as fireflies, or little plants in the ground to recover it. It's catastrophic.
In any case, and as long as you do not bleed to death in the void or die in battle against a Brother, you will experience one of the 3 endings of the game at the end of your entire journey and long journey: if you managed to decide on a sister and feed only her until covering all their hearts will be one of the endings that they, like your other self, try to convince you to take, or if in any case you covered all the amount of color that you yourself needed to go up to the upper limit and perform the turgor rite on you, the second, and the third remains to be explored.
Below, although I'm leaving it out now, I thought I would put my ideology if someone asks for it about what I think is the meaning of the game and what elements of esoteric spirituality I think it is inspired by.

Greetings if anyone dares to play it!

Hellow! --
VERY BEGINNING OF THE GAME:
Esmeralda a 100, maxima proteccion. desventaja no recuerdo.
