Should I start over?

I'm trying to get enough color to fill both the first sister's hearts, and I've gotten to the point where I've cleared out every available chamber, harvested all my trees, captured every firefly, and I still don't have enough colour to fill her hearts. I also don't have enough colour to wait for another cycle, so my trees bloom again.

Is there a way to recover, or do I just need to start over?

I'm actually at a similar point, only I was able to wait a few more days and get enough color to fill both her hearts. She's all perky and everything, but she didn't do anything!
Now nothings happened, no extra rooms are unlocked, all the trees/fireflies are harvested and I'm out of color. The game is literally over for me. I have a quicksave and within seconds of loading I die. I can not continue. Very frustrating.

Unless you have a save game. No, not really.

That's part of the game essentially. To make it to the end. Survival I guess.
