How do you use A lucky potion?

It says that instead of getting a misfortune you discard this card. But if i go over a misfortune it doesnt discard it and i get the misfortune.

And if i land directly on the misfortune I dont get the option to discard it either. Am i doing something wrong?

You need to play the card at treasure spot, it becomes a perm card, then the next misfortune you get destroys it.

It doesn't work from a hand, its effect works if the card was previously played and became an active permanent card. There is a section in the rules about permanent cards, or you can start a session with the character abilities activated and play as The Collector. It starts with an active Lucky Potion, so you can see how it works.

Oh, and one more thing about Lucky Potion. It always works, even when you don't want it. Means, that if you have active Lucky Potion and play, let's say, The Lesser Evil, you won't get the Misfortune of your choice. Instead, your Lucky Potion will be discarded to protect you.
