Cannot launch SteamVR (Errors 301 and 109)
I launched SteamVR this morning and SteamVR is giving me error 301:

(A key component of SteamVR isn't working properly)

and Steam gives me the error:

SteamVR failed to initialized[sic] for unknown reasons. (Error: Not Initialized (109))

This was all working fine yesterday, I think. If not yesterday, then Tuesday. There were some updates to SteamVR recently. When I launched this morning, it asked me to install the Bluetooth driver, although it was already giving me the errors before I did that.

I've tried rebooting my PC and completely uninstalling and reinstalling SteamVR. I'm using the latest beta version of SteamVR.

Any help?

Also, I just tried switching back to the main version of SteamVR instead of the beta branch and everything works, so it's definitely something with one of the latest updates.

I downloaded the latest beta SteamVR last night and am having quite a few problems with it. The main issue is that any time I press the menu button on either Vive controller, the Steam in-game overlay appears for a second, followed by everything going grey. I am unable to get SteamVR to recover from this, so I end up having to take off the HMD, close SteamVR on my desktop, and re-launch it.

Edit: I just tried switching USB ports, as well as disabling/enabling the camera in SteamVR, and now it's working.

Hi Dan,

Can you send a system report to SteamVR at valve dot com? Reference this post with your message. Thanks!
I'm getting similar behavior with the latest SteamVR beta [Cannot launch SteamVR (Errors 301 and 109) ]. Switching to the non beta branch has resolved it for me. I submitted system reports at the steamvr mail address referencing this thread.

I'm also getting the same errors, and have emailed you with a system report.
[edit: opting out of the beta works correctly]

By the way, SteamVR at valve dot com gives a 550 relay not permitted error

Yeah, my email bounced back as well. Was sent from a gmail account with *.txt attachments.

Just wanted to add to this - we just had the same issue after moving to a new machine. Thinking it was the machine not setup right, I reconnected it back to our working install, and get the exact same error.

What it ended up being was power-related - something like the Vive USB box was not getting enough power, which gave these errors. When we removed the power-board we were using and plugged it directly into the wall, it worked again. I imagine disabling the camera may also help resolve this, as it will cause the Vive to use a little bit less power.

So if anyone else gets this issue in the future, try a different power connection / powerboard / adapters.

I had the same problem (109) due to too many connections out of one power strip. Turning off a couple of my monitors solved the issue.

I had error 301 when i first got mine.
After uninstalling steamvr and reinstalling, it was all fine.
Was kinda horrible though the app just sat there crashing, lol.
All sorted and updated and rocking it.

Has anyone had any success solving this issue? I can get it to connect and work correctly about 5% of the time -- otherwise I either get a 109 or 301 error. As someone mentioned above, I tried swapping power outlets with no success. All my components are plugged directly into the wall. When it does go green (true green; on false greens my System button doesn't work and the controllers aren't labelled with the left/right hand), it works wonderfully. Unfortunately, I can spend entire nights of resetting, rebooting, and power cycling to get it working.

I'm a capable tech and I'm very willing to work with any developers to resolve this issue.
