WTF!
ok im a bit @#%^@# off.
this game was beta and alpha on pc AND MAC.
yet for some god dang reason its only for pc! what happened!?!

one of the devs please respond or anybody else with good info. thanks

Short story, with the use of bitsquid, OSX and LINUX is looking very improbable right now.

In the end we were faced with continued use of "daisy-engine" and a higher chance of OSX and LINUX support in the future, or use the "bitsquid-engine" and get online support but less likely OSX and basically no LINUX at all.

Right now we feel online is a very important feature which i think many players would regret us not having.

This is the current situation. It wasn't an easy call to make.

As noted in the reddit post, if you bought the game for the purpose of these platforms and you feel this is intolerable, you can contact mojang support about a refund. We won't hold it against you, and we are sorry about any letting you down. It is really we that failed on this front.

Ok! i understand, programing for multiple systems can be difficult. i just wanted to know why.
the reason i got so flustered, is that i thought is was just like " meh, making agmes is to much work" knowing that it was beacause of the programing software. i hope that it does come out for osx and linux soon. good day.

Why are they absolutely no information about it on the front page of http://playcobalt.com and where can we ask a refund from the alpha?

You're right, now have a cookie. However, everybody knew that Pandokat was referring to a PC running Microsoft Windows using the PC term that was introduced by IBM in 1981. Do you also referring your Phone as a PC too because it's a personal computer too, you know?

Wow I just noticed this after being all excited to find Cobat had finally released and was available on Steam (after purchasing it in 2013, I think, to support the alpha development). Then I couldn't find an install button for some reason. Oh, surprise. OS X/Linux support has been dropped without even any public mention of it at all. The least you could have done- the VERY least- would have been to send an email to people's Mojang addresses with some reasoning or an apology. But instead it's swept under a rug.

And let's be clear here- the decision you were faced with was:

A) Support a platform that you sold the game to people to use on that platform and maybe slow down or remove other potential (unpromised, unsold) features and perhaps lose some sales, or

B) Abandon people who had purchased your product in good faith that they'd be able to use it with their operating systems and maybe shove in some other features to make few bucks more

And you chose to abandon us. I don't mean to come off too harsh here- and I don't feel I am. *nix gaming is having a hard enough time as is. But doing something like this? This is worse than not supporting *nix from the get-go, by a huge margin. I don't think I can be clear enough about how disgusted and disappointed I am to see this. Frankly, I'm shocked your publishers allowed this to happen.

I just don't even have the words to enunciate how upset I am. I'd do the whole "boycot!" thing, but frankly it's overdone and it's already clear that you've got my money and don't care about my market segment anyways.

I think you're overreacting by far. First, the features they can now support by using the new engine are huge, and were in fact spoken of relatively early in development (though as you say, mostly unpromised). Second, with the new engine they've been able to also release the game on 2 other platforms. Third, as soon as the engine developers decide to make it function on Mac and Linux, the port will be on its way, I belive.
The developers are not happy that they needed to drop support for two operative systems, and are in no way running away with your money and not giving a crap about you. If you want, you can send oxeye an email asking for a refund (this has also been said publicly multiple times).

Next time, before you start a hate-rant saying "it's already clear that you've got my money and don't care about my market segment anyway", please inform yourself.
