At almost 900 hours and 5 years of playing, I'm still impressed with this realistic, fun, PTSD generator of a game, and feel that I must finally post a review. It has helped me through long hours of boredom, and bouts of aggression when I'm irritated with certain situations in my life. I will go over the reasons of why I like the game, and touch up on things I feel still need improvement.
-Outstanding graphics, visual effects and sound (for a game of its time, over 5 years old).
-Immersive interface and interaction with enviroment (although see Cons)
-Realistic gameplay; encumberance affects stamina, which in turn affects speed, and accuracy. and fairly realistic ballistics for weapons (again though, see Cons).
-Great expansion with the addition of Rising Storm a couple of years ago.
-A fair leveling system with stats and achievements.
-Great "soldier" feel, without all of the political ideologies of the time being drawn into battles where most soldiers cared about survival more than racial/political superiority.
-And probably more that I forgot to add.
-The biggest complaint I've had for years (and probably that of many other players as well), is the stupidity of the AI, combined with their impossible accuracy/shooting skills. A kill shot achieved when my (bot) killer is aiming at a 90 degree angle from me or at a dead sprint are examples of this. Also, their questionable ability to follow orders....
-As stated in the Pros, the interface with enviroment is great, however, the cover option is a little clunky at times. Maybe an improvement?
-The classes are grouped pretty well, but maybe adding new classes/abilities? Such as a medic, perhaps, with a revive system.
-The weapons are great with exception of the AT rifles. Maybe AT launchers could be implemented, such as panzerfaust or panzershrek? And yes, I know they aren't historically accurate for the time, but then again, neither was the G41 (G43), or Mkb 42 (STG 44) used as frequently as a game battle portrayed during the Stalingrad era. And if not those, maybe "mountable" AT guns, such as a Pak, or even a commander option for anti-armor CAS support. Just suggestions.......
-Rising Storm was a great expansion, with new factions, weapons, and maps. Maybe a new official expansion, such as a Western Front expansion, British faction, new weapons, etc. Once again, just suggestions, given the age of the game.
-And probably a few others that aren't too important to mention....
Red Orchestra/Rising Storm is a GREAT game as it stands, and I won't stop playing any time soon. Additions/improvements, in my opinion, would make it even better, and expand the life of this game even more.
