Should I come back?
Hey guys, I am a RO1/darkest hour player. I bought RO2 on release day. However as I played it I did not find it as fun as the first. I felt like a idiot using a bolt action rifle when so many automatic weapons were around and so accurate. The maps were also not very big. Teamwork din't seem to be as plentiful as the first either.

I was wondering if anything has changed is it better than RO1 now? Have things been getting better? Does it still seem like over half the team has fully automatic weapons? Are the maps getting closer to the scale of the first?

Thanks for any answers!

FIRST OF ALL, I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT I HAVE NEVER PLAYED RO1, SO I CAN'T REALLY TELL YOU ANY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO GAMES BASED ON EXPERIENCE.
BOLT ACTION RIFLES WHERE THE BACKBONE OF THE BATTLE OF STALINGRAD AND SO HALF THE TEAM WILL BE RIFLEMEN. USING BOLT ACTIONS CAN BE VERY TRICKY, BUT IT REALLY DEPENS ON YOUR PING. (MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE RO2 SERVERS DISTRIBUTION).
AUTOMATIC WEAPONS ARE REASONABLY ACCURATE AT DISTANCES UP TO 100 METERS, BUT THE SOUND OF A GERMAN HELMET OR SKULL BEING PENETRATED BY A FULL CARTIDGE BULLET AT 150M+ IS AWESOME!
I HAVE NO PICTURE OF THE SIZE OF THE RO1 MAPS, BUT THE RO2 ONES ARE BIG ENOUGH TO HOUSE A 32VS32 PLAYER CONFICT AND TO THE MOST OF THE TIMES THERE IS A 'CORNER' FOR EVERYONE. BESIDES, SOME OF THE MAPS ARE HUGE (WINTERWALD OR THE RED OCTOBER FACTORY) AND KEEP IN MIND THAT RO2 NOW COMES WITH A STEAM WORKSHOP WHERE YOU CAN DOWNLOAD MAPS FROM THE COMMUNITY. BUT, HONESTLY, I DON'T SEE WHY YOU WANT BIG MAPS IF YOU PREFER

AUTOMATIC WEAPONS.
SINCE RO2 FEATURES A LOT OF COMMANDING STUFF, TEAMWORK SOLELY DEPENS ON THE PLAYERS. SOMETIMES YOU WILL JOIN A SERVER WHERE THE OTHER PLAYERS JUST WANT TO GUN DOWN THE ENEMY. FROM MY EXPERIENCE, TEAMWORK EXISTS MOSTLY IN SERVERS WITH 30+ PLAYERS. BELIEVE ME THOUGH, PLAYING A RO2 ROUND WITH A SERVER CROWDED WITH COOPERATING AND MATURE PLAYERS WHO USE VOICE CHAT SERIOUSLY IS THE MOST FULLFILING THING YOU CAN DO IN STEAM. ANYWAY, THE GAME HAS SOME TECHNICAL ISSUES THAT EVENTUALLY WILL BE SORTED OUT, AND RISING STORM IS IN THE HORIZON....

I actualy prefer bolt action rifles the I din't like the fact that the mkb42 and other automatic weapons were so prevalent and so effective in comparison. Are there more tanks?
LIGHTNICK 24 nov 2012 à 2h57
NO, STILL ONLY TWO TANKS AVAILABLE (T-34 AND PANZER IV). TWI SAID ON THE GAME'S RELEASE THAT MAKING THE TANK MODELS TAKES A LOT SO THEIR PLAN IS TO RELEASE IT WITH ONLY TWO AND THEM TO ADD SOME ON THE WAY. THAT WAS A YEAR AGO. WELL, I GUESS THEY CAN'T HIRE MORE STAFF BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE PLAY CRAPPY MAINSTREAM FPS GAMES.

i don`t know RO1 and RO2 release neither but in the actual version you have 2-3 players playing with the mkb42, 4 players are playing mg, the SLs and the commander can choose automatic weapons(realism mode). So you have about 13 players with automatic weapons in realism mode. But anyway i play the game since the game of the year update and the free weekend on steam and i would say it`s worth to come back because the veterans on my favourite server said that they updated it more to Ro1 instead of adding other things like action mode improvements.
Hope this is a little help for your decision!

I never liked all the automatic weapons that everyone had. I prefered the first RO but it seems like theres not many players left at this moment. I am not sure how I feel about 13 players having fully automatic weapons per team. I am suprised they did not add anymore tanks.

Some modders are making more vehicles but I don't know how long it will take:

I think TW work hard now with the Rising Storm team to help them on the addon and maybe, trying and studying new things they can import to RO2 after. Wait and see... :)

Workshop and some great custom maps have breathed new life in to the game along with the map and update from tripwire and rising storm coming soon .

RO2 is well worth it. As an additional lure, some old RO 1 maps are being ported. Koitos 1943, Basovka, Barashka, Racowice, Arad. It takes a little getting used to, but the play is good, the rifeles are very good, with ranging sights now, and the graphics are nice.

Well there are less automatics than release, and new maps that put more bolts available than auto weapons. I myself love using the bolt and enjoy killing smg leaders with it. The Classic mod also lessens the amount of autos but tbh I dont think the loadouts were bad in the beginning, I mean I blame some maps like apartments(just like danzig, smg's and autos rule the map.) Loadouts vary on maps so you may find some maps with many smg's or not any. Well its worth it, and its getting better with each update and custom made content.

I didn't like the game at first and was right ♥♥♥♥ed, it was broken for me entirely.

Now, it runs beautifully and I think they did a great job restoring faith and giving players a reason to join up.

The weapon loadouts are really map dependent. Custom mappers can cap a limit on Autos, for example on one map I played there were only 2 or 3 Assault slots per team, so 2 or 3 PPSh/AVTs/MKBs/MP40's for the entire game. 6 out of 64 players running with Autos isn't bad. There can also be 1-4 MG's (again, map/mapper dependent) and the rest was bolts and some semi autos. There will be two new tanks making their way soon, the Pzr III and the T-70. Also, there are a few individual players taking their stab at making scout vehicles for the germans and russians. There's also a guy working on fixed AT Guns that were in RO1. ETA, unknown at this point, but it's free content so I can wait.
