Type-4 semi-automatic rifle?
I have been playing this game for quite a few hours lately and we all have clearly noticed:
The Americans outgun in the Japanese in every aspect.

I don't want any "Another whinner!" "Shut up game balanced" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t in the discussion but honest shared opinions about this.

I am not asking for a nerf as guns act (almost?) accordingly to their real-life counter part except for perhaps the BAR and the flamethrower carrying no risks or weight at all.

I am talking about adding a new gun to the game with the name Type-4 on the japanese side. It is a semi-automatic rifle that the japanese created to copy the M1 Garand during the war. It would spice things up alot for the Americans and actually create some competition, instead of having someone on the American team BAR-snipe everyone in the map or having a flamethrower troop rush without the risk of being picked off before arriving to the front.

Of course the bolt-action can take fine care of this all but then we also have M1 carbines and M1 Garands, no one obviously picks the springfield unless they want a challenge on their hands.

It would balance the game slightly and make it more fun for whoever is the victim to join the Japanese side and being screwed over by the smaller arsenal than the Japanese actually had during the war.

Please share your ideas and thoughts and I prefer no idioticy in this discussion and only maturity. (For example: Flaming me, trolling, harrassing) leave that out, please?

It was never used, so no. The point of this game is the assymetric firepower.

You have been negative on every opinion to balance the game just in the slightest bit so far so I will leave your opinion out of the votes and opinion box I am collecting for now.

Don't feel offended but I traced some of your replies on these discussions. :)

I agree that the U.S. don't have much of a challenge in the game, and that the BAR and Flamethrower are a little too OP. I've used a BAR to snipe across the map in more than once instance.

If the Japanese could just have access to Alien technology, (Such as Death-Rays,) then I think it would make this game far more interesting, thus achieving more sales.

Though if this isn't within the realm of possibility, then I would normally agree with Ludi's idea of adding in the Type 4 rifle. The only problem with that is the fact they were only experimental and a mere 250 were made. This rifle was not put into service before the end of WW2. It would be an uncommon weapon and it would hold more trouble than it was worth. Though the Japanese do need more of an edge.

IMO better for RS and custom maps in the future to focus in on early pacific war... Ths US did not have M1 garand/m1 carbine in theater untill vary late 42ish/43. All battles before where with springfield rifles. Although SOME m1941 Johnson semi auto rifles where used by Marine raiders and para troops. That gun is missing so hmm ya. :D But it is suppose to be like this and ya not thrilled with the US over firepower either. Even when I play US. I hope once the community starts getting maps out that SOME of them focus in on early pacific war where thigns where MUCH more game balanced. Also allowing the japanese MG's to be fired from the sholder like the BAR would be nice. But that is small thing.

I'm all for game balance but when it comes to weaponry they should avoid anything that wasn't used in the actual war. This game does try to remain authentic after all.

If anything needs balance changing, it's the map layouts and reinforcement counts that need to be tweaked in order to shift the balance properly. Also, I have my gripes about the flamethrower being too fast and being able to spin around like a windmill when firing.

I prefer the japanese weaponry for the most part. The Arisaka bolt action rifles chamber faster than the springfield, the type 99 has comparable damage to the springfield. IMO the Japanese MG's are superior once you get the the mountable scopes. They are low recoil, have high rate of fire, and the 7mm MG is as powerful as the American's. But suffer from small magazine, although reloading is fast. Booby traps are fun, but I would like some pungee sticks or something.
The light artillery is deadly from long range and also does quite well, indoors for clearing rooms.

The BAR is and was a great gun. Powerful beacuse it's chambered in .30-06 and relatively low recoil because they were built very heavy. I think running speed with the bar should be reduced, because of it's weight, other than that, it is powerful but it's fairly realistic.

My only gripe with the flamethrower, is that you lose the ability to use your weapon at all, as soon as the fire gets you. I okay with dying but I think it's rather stupid when I pull the trigger as I get blasted with fire, and can't get my shot off. You should be able to at least spray from the hip, while on fire. There are so many times where i've had a flametrooper round a corner right in front of me and blasts me as I click my mouse, and the shot doesnt register, and I just get to run around defenceless until I burn to death.

Well i would say unless you weight 300 pounds and bench press your weight or something....the BAR firing off hand (standing weapon shouldered) has way less recoil than it should. Just find some ww2 footage of some soldier/marine firing it. Then compare.

Firing a .308 caliber 150 grain bullet at about 2800fps in a 19-20lb firearm (I told you the BAR was heavy didnt I?) generates about 6 ft/lbs of recoil. That is VERY low. Less than what a standard AK-47 and M4/M16 would produce. Also the person's stature has nothing to do with handling recoil. I am 5'9'' 120 lbs and have fired hotter .30-06 loads through lighter weapons, and the recoil just isnt that bad at all. I could only imagine how tame it would be with a 20lb rifle.

There isn't a balance issue in this game. Too many people don't know how to take advantage of the strengths they have. The bonzai charge is absolutely, game breakingly good. And yet I almost never see it. Why? What is going through your heads when you forgoe your frickin super power? It is mind blowing.

The mortar is amazing. The bolt action rifles are amazing. The universal bayonettes are amazing. Who cares about the automatic fire? The Japanese shouldn't be standing back and shooting anyhow, their strength is in close combat. Machine guns and snipers should be taking out flamethrowers and groups of advancing Americans while the rest of the team sets up booby traps and ambushes.

Seeing as this gun was never actually used and even fewer made, no. Not that the game is very assymetric what with nips have more type 100's than americans have thompsons on some maps...

they were never used, and should never be put in the game. a better way to balance the weaponry would be to increase the recoil on the BAR and the garand, currently theyre pretty low compared to their real life counterparts
Sidon Aug 23, 2013 @ 8:47pm
I believe 400 were made in total, and they only started producing them in July of 1945

On second thought, where's muh FG 42?

If anything, the Japanese have too much firepower.

As another poster said, they need to greatly nerf the number of SMG's the Japanese have. I suggested adding a flamethrower (type 100) for the japanese and tear gas grenades for the TL and engineer class.

The only maps I think that are inherently a little unbalanced are Hanto and Saipan and maybe Peleilu, which would be quickly solved by adding more defending reinforcements.

I haven't had much issues playing as japanese, you learn the the strengths of them and use them. Booby traps can make bunkers almost unassaultable and on many maps the large sightlines the japanese get means they can pick off flamethrowers before they get close enough. I will admit though its bad if you're new and dont know what you're doing.
Radmir Rope Aug 24, 2013 @ 6:03am
Should be in game.Because now its imbalanced.Especially in public servers. And flamer still can spawn directly on squad leader.I am playing for USA mostly because i dont like japanese at all.But if you call it assymetric it doesnt mean that its balanced IMO.For those who telling about ooh only prototype and so, what you gonna say about Mkb 42 ingame?

Just some things to show you1) us firepower-75% of japanese with bolt actions 2) banzai charge-easy counter with flamer or automatics3)flamer-nothing to counter4)traps good but mostly useless in attack also destroyable5)mortar one japanese pros but not enough to affect on disbalance.
P.S If you call it balance well worse for you then.

The devs have already stated before that they will absolutely not put this in game because it was never used in battle. I'm glad they made the right decision there.
