In Country: Vietnam, what are your thoughts?
If you don't know, In Country Vietnam is going to be a new mod for RO2, that will be set in Vietnam (DUH) What are your thoughts? Personally I am really excited to use an AK in a Red Orchestra game, as well as M16's etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBVx4MFpAoA

Black ops on Hardcore mode. I was a pessimist with RS as well though, so i'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

Since this is going to be a mod, I'm hoping the mod team tries their best to change the basic formula of RO2/RS. They should be able to take more liberties with the gameplay and map design.

Vietnam has been done multiple times. How come no one bothers with the First World war?

There's poison gas, trenches, MP18's, BAR's, crude tanks, and even a semi-automatic rifle used.

1918 with Germans versus Americans is beautifully asymmetric.

Its flamers, chemical weapons, and SMG's, versus a team with LMG's, BAR's, shotguns, and semiautomatic rifles.

I'd pay money for that. Vietnam just sounds meh.

There's a WWI mod being worked on for RO2 actually:

There's also a new FPS coming out called "Verdun" but it looks like it plays too much like CoD to me. You can try it out free here:

The Vietnam War has not been done enough times. If you think the Vietnam War was meh, I suggest you learn more about the Vietnam War.

Rise of Flight is a worthy ww1 modern flight sim.

However, there are no decent fps's of the great war, or even particularly good RTSs, except for the company of heroes ww1 mod.

Personally I reckon there's a decent scope for the first world war in FPS form, especially in 1918, with the German Operation Michael and subsequent battles from march 1918, and then the Battle of Amiens and the ensuing Hundred Days Offensive. Excellent scope for combined arms battles, decent and comprehensive artillery - could you imagine being able to call in box barrages or creeping barrage? Or the dynamics of blasting holes in barbed wire; trench fighting, open and mobile warfare, fighting in towns and cities. But I'd rather see the French and British against the Germans.

I do agree with Doomhammer - Vietnam seems to pop up very frequently, although I wish the mod team good luck with their project.

I think mainly why there hasn't been more WW1 shooters is simple, actually. Not alot of people know enough about WW1 to garner enough excitement about it. We have had one WW2 shooter after another since the late 90's early 2000's because of the popularity of shows/movies such as 'Saving Private Ryan', 'Band of Brothers', 'Enemy At The Gates', etc. and all the media publicity attached to those movies and to the men involved in WW2.

I have played several WW1 shooters, all have been mods of other shooters and they have all been really bad. I have played this 'Verdun' just a few weeks ago and it is godawful. Until a major developer takes on the task and sinks alot of resources into a ground up WW1 shooter, i'm afraid all we'll have is bad mods of other shooters.

WW2 shooters have alot of options in the form of weapons, battle sites, combatants, etc. to choose from when developers go about making a WW2 shooter. I think alot of developers won't take it on because they're not sure if the majority of players are going to want, for the most part, trench warfare with mostly bolt actions. Yeah, there were automatics used also, some tank combat, but the majority of the combatants had bolt actions and the majority of the conflicts were charging trenches back and forth. I think developers are put off by making a game that few know about, and the lack of diverse battle scenarios that could be developed. But this is my opinion.

Right if I where to say HAY I am doing a mod of post ww2 colonial fighting in malasyia gemers would go WHAT?. Or operation INDIA VS Pakistan in the 1970's HUH? To be honest IF it focused on French vs the Vietmin in 1950's would be quite interesting. But does not have the air time to generate interest. But SKS VS MAS49 .. thats a pretty even match up.

Make of mod of the MOvie Wild Gease LOL. Whats that? lol. So you get ww2, vietnam, or that bad taste stuff of current wars. Talk about disconnect. You got guys fighting and some ♥♥♥♥ clowns are selling a game to kids. Let the body's cool at least.
