It is a racist slur.

J.ap isn't a racial term at all. It's just short for japanese. If this is racist then so is "外人" which the j.aps use all the time.
Moskeeto 13. říj. 2013 v 1.14 odp.
In American culture it has commonly been used as a racial slur against the Japanese. Hence its censorship on the Steam forums which is based in the US.

On it's own it's as racist as "brit" "scot" or "yankee", not at all. It's just that people are oversensitve when it comes to non-white people for no reason. It's stupid

Would it kill you lot to just accept it's going to be censored and move on?

I mean, just because you don't find it offensive, doesn't mean everyone else won't either. It seems rather selfish and arrogant to expect everyone else to subscribe to your own set of values and standards. What makes them so special?

-edit- and at any rate, this is not the thread to be discussing this non-issue.

Because it's just an abbreviation and those offended by it use those and way worse terms all the time themselves? It's hypocrisy and just stupid over-sensitive people.
But yeah whatever this is off-topic
Moskeeto 13. říj. 2013 v 1.37 odp.
I'm not offended by the term. I'm merely explaining Steam's reasoning behind the censorship. It has a history of being used in a negative connotation much unlike 'brit', 'scot', or 'yankee'.
