29th Infantry Division.
Hello everyone,

With this thread I want to introduce you to the 29th Infantry Division.

The 29th Infantry Division is a realism unit that started back in the old days of Day Of Defeat. We moved on to the Darkest Hour Mod for Red Orchestra 2 and we also expanded a while ago to Red Orchestra 2/Rising Storm and also to the Invasion 44 Mod for Armed Assault 2.

Our unit we are based on the 29th Infantry Division during World War II. As a realism unit we stick to the system for ranks, promotions, badges, weapons and medals that were used in that period of time.

Players that want to join the unit go through a special training called BCT (basic combat training). If they pass BCT they are assigned to a squad and also a role within the squad (machine gunner etc.).

Squads itself are assigned to a platoon and platoons are also assigned to a company. At the moment we have 3 companies with 8 platoons and 18 squads. Together with the staff of the different headquarters we have right now more than 200 members (224 to be precise).

As a member you usually have three drills each week. These are a a drill with your squad (squad drill), a drill with your platoon (platoon drill) and a drill with your company (company drill). In those drills we play through certain scenarios or use the time to practice tactics and teamwork together.

We think that custom maps and custom content was (and still is) one of the main factors that made Red Orchestra 1 and Darkest Hour great. Because of this we also try to support custom maps and custom content for Red Orchestra/Rising Storm. Every sunday at 3pm EST/8pm GMT we hold a public play session only feauturing custom maps. So if you are interested in checking out the latest custom maps on a full server, this is a good chance to do so. These and other events are held on our Battalion Server which is public 24/7:

The session starts at 3pm EST/8pm GMT

Well, those Sunday custom map sessions have been great fun.

I think it is good that there's a way to expand your game experience.

One can join Realism unit if you are into that. You can join (or form) a small clan to play competitive games (TWI Ladder) if you are into that. And if neither of those are to your liking, you can play public.

I can't see anything wrong with choices.

Well I have been in the unit for almost 3 years now and I agree its not everyones cup of tea. That is why we do the BCT stuff, so people can find out if they actually like what we do or not.

Since I have been in the unit for a while, I agree that in the past (about 2 years ago) some people were showing a attidude that was not really nice. However as far as I can tell those people are long gone and the 29th has learned from som mistakes made in the past.
This isnt meant as a defense but it didnt help to run the only DH Server beside the Jolly Rogers one that was frequently filled with people. Jolly Rogers is a tank only server so our DH server was and still is the only real server to pub for people that liked normal DH gameplay. This probably leads to some strange and sometimes irrational bad feelings towards the people that run the server.

I like what you do

On another note.

We are also looking out for other realism units or clans that would like to do friendly scrimms against/with us

I used to play on the 29th ID server for Darkest Hour mod. Whilst it was probably the best server at the time (always complete teamplay and cooperation), some of the admins were little more than nazi man-babies. That's what I remember that server for most, high horsed admins that would ban people for little reason.
MeFirst Jan 11 @ 4:59am
Well I dont know if you got banned and why. However we do have some rules on our server and some people decide to knowingly break them. Here are those rules:

1. Do not intentionally wound or kill your teammate
Even if they did it to you first, or get in your way, or ♥♥♥♥ you off.

2. Do not fire or melee attack near the spawn area
This avoids accidental team wounding.

3. Keep the foul language to a minimum
Our servers are a friendly environment open to players of all ages, genders and races. It may be a war videogame but it is a public server.
Note: This applies to microphone, text chat, and player names.

4. Keep political and religious discussions off the server
People often play games to relax and escape these topics. Polite discussions can easilly escalate into arguments.

5. Racism or discrimination of any kind is not tolerated

6. Respect all 29th members and public players
Do not insult other players.

7. The admin of the server is the highest ranking 29th member present

8. Keep complaints and whining to a minimum
We all have to play maps we don't like sometimes. Whining about it just gets on everyone's nerves.

9. Do not interrupt private drills
If the server is locked and you can see that only 29th members are in it, do not try to join.

10. Keep the teams balanced

11. Do not take weapon slots you are not familiar with
Some maps require certain weapons/roles to be played fully for the team to stand a chance. Not having the role played effectively destroys that chance and ruins the fun for everyone on the team (especially on longer maps).

12. Do not block spawn doors or disrupt the flow of gameplay

13. Use chat and VOIP responsably
Keep it game-related, do not spam or abuse these.

14. Do not recruit for your own unit/clan in our servers
This is a common courtesy among all clans and realism units; please respect it.

15. Do not impersonate a 29th member
Only those who have passed the 29th Basic Combat Training may use the [29th ID] tags in their name.

16. Do not argue server rules in the server
Our server rules have been established for quite a length of time. If you have a specific issue with a rule, you may message 29th HQ via our forums.

If you think you got banned for no good reason, or you feel that certain admins abuse their powers, feel free to contact us.

Note that some rules are the dont block the spawn area and the no shooting in spawn rule do not really apply to RS. Spawning in RS is different as on most DH maps so you cant do something like blocking spawn doors etc.

To everyone who is planning to visit us tomorrow for a custom map session. There are some new maps and some maps got new versions out. So you might want to check if you are up to date.

Of course you can download the maps from the server when you join, but in most cases a regular download will be faster and you dont have to wait.

You can find a up to date list for custom maps here:
