Anti-Tank Rifle Ineffective
Just for a change, and because I got fed up with tanks dominating on some matches, I've been having a go at playing AT soldier, and I've understood why it's not a popular role. I've spent ages flanking enemy tanks, or lying in wait until they pass me to unload rounds into the engine compartment (which should be the weak spot right?), but I might as well be throwing pebbles at them.
I've concluded that AT soldier is more or less a last ditch kamikaze role ... I'll stick to driving tanks i think ;-)

Any tips would be welcome from seasoned anti-tankers.

Sometimes you spend lots of bullets on a tank, sometimes you kill him with one shot into a critical location.

One thing however is for sure:
Their upper side is the most vulnerable ...
if you are able to get into an elevated position (like the upper levels of the houses in Pavlovs House complex) you can get quite a lot of one shot kills (and cause panic among the tankers :D )

Also remember that your AT rifle isn´t your only weapon ... sometimes it is a very good idea to sneak close to the enemy tank in order to use your AT grenades ;)

I would say I have some very decent aim in the game... I can plink soldiers on the run at 200m with the AT... I aim at all the vital parts of the tank... I get big puffs of fire... I have blown so many rounds at a tank... and it does not seem to matter... Front - side - back... nada. In all my hours of RO2, I think I have 2 tank kills with the AT and a trainload of assists (even though you dont get any as an AT)

I have used the tank far less than I have been an AT gunner- and I have been one shot in a tank by an AT rifle orders of magnitude more than I have killed a tank as an AT - I have just recently had an AT gunner kill each of my crew members one by one... twice in a game.-- (some shady ♥♥♥♥ if you ask me)

I honestly don't get it.

Tanks feel like a random thing to me anyway... I can hit the kill spots 5 times of a tank with a tank 4 rounds before the tank finds me... he looks at me, aims fires and kills my gunner, then kills my tank that is dead on to him in one round as I have his flank.... Other times I hit the front armor and the entire thing blows sky high.

Tanks are random...

Thanks, I'll try aiming higher. I'd always read that the engine compartment was critical though.

Well, IRL the point of AT rifles was mainly to eliminate tank's crew by shooting at weak spots, such as visors\doors, behind which usually was a crew member.

I don't know if AT rifles caused any 1-shot tank explosions IRL, so it's kinda realistic.

Unfortunately, all this knowledge doesn't help me not to suck with it. I don't know if RO2 mechanic allows killing crew members without destroying vehicle itself. And I completely don't understand, why they don't add any kind of RPG's (Panzerfaust for gerries, lendlease bazookas for soviets, for example).

If you play on Russian team and an AT hero, you can get the PzB (German anti-tank rifle). You can literally hit almost anywhere on the Panzer and it will do damage/kill the crew. (Supposedly the Germans used tungsten bullets during WW2 for anti-tank weapons, I don't know how true this is though since I only heard this while in game from other people.)

As for weak spots if you are using the respective team AT rifles, Panzers are a little more easier to hit on the side than the T-34 (from my experience anyways). You can hit the Panzer on the upper half of the body if you are completely to one of their sides, and can sometimes hit something that will blow the tank up in one shot or kill a crew member. A T-34, however, is a little more tricky. You can hit the gap a little up and between the second and third wheel from the front and can possibly cause the tank to blow up in one shot (either side from my experience). From the front, you can hit the turret ring between the body and the main gun, this will likely kill a crew member, as well as reduce the turret's rotation speed.

Also remember, bullet angles are taken into account when shooting tanks (though I am pretty sure you already know this).

Yep ...
AT rifles in reality were more a weapon of the early phases of WW2 ...
being effective only against ligher armor (like that of Pz 1 and 2) but not/only marginally against the heavier armor of the 1940s tanks.
In these regards I guess that the effectiveness of the AT rifle in RO2 against T-34/Pz III might even be much greater than it would have been in reality

It is possible, although we (as AT riflemen) won´t get any message or visuals confirming kills of crewmen

Shooting the engine will ensure a tank blows up, anywhere else is a dice roll. I've sat in a tank and watched crewmembers get killed by AT-rounds coming through the armor. The weakpoints existed in real-life, too. One of them is the slit between the turret and the chassis. Pretty sure you can fire through the windows, too. Both are very slim shots.

You only get a kill feed in the top right corner if the crew member you kill is controlled by a player, otherwise you get nothing.

I find the AT rifles to be abit op.... when used by players that know the weak spots.... thats just my opinion :)

From RO1 but still applies in RO2...

In RO1 there have been Modeldrawings (Cards) showing all the weak spots. Are there any grafics/drawing/models that show the weak sppots?
tank, ammo, chain, engine, turret ... ?

I find it to be very buggy. Look at the first shot in this.

Looks to me like you shot a little too high due to the recoil of the rifle ... the shot went above and left frm him, barely missing shoulder and helmet, if I see this correctly.
Your 2nd shot was more aimed at the center of mass of the soldier, therefore it hit

The bullet should have left the barrel before the recoil hit.
