I think they're making one right now, it's called Verdun and it's on steam if you want to check it out.

I don't think WWI would be interesting because sitting in a trench getting bombarded then running across a flat wasteland just to get mowed down by machine gun fire sounds boring as hell.

I think it would be awesome. Especially with gas warfare.

Verdun is shaping up to be a great game.

I would guess it would only be interesting, if the attacker gets access to tanks (i.e. A7V on side of the germans, Mk3/4 for the allied.
Else it might devolve into exactly the thing, Shindlers Fist mentioned

The Type of Warfare is very unpersonal in WW1. You don't have many close combat situations. You laied several hours under heavy artillerie bombardement, charged through empty No Man's Land into crossfires of MGs and died in masses without being able to see the enemy even once. To translate this into a game would be a) no fun or b) (with changes for the sake of gameplay) not very authentic for which TWI is caring.

Well just to be honest ro2 can be exactly like that sometimes:P
Scytale May 8, 2014 @ 2:09pm
Well, yes :D

But you know what i mean, WWI RO would be EVEN HARDER

if you want WWI mod for RO2 all you need to do, is disable all guns except for bolt-action rifles and MMG's. and change the stalhelms into german piklehaubs (donnu the spelling, but you know it's that silly helm with the pointy end on top)

there that's WWI for ya.
doesn't sound very exciting does it now?

Germans had stahlhelms in WWI also. Pickelhaubes provided little to no protection and they Gerrys rarely needed to headbutt the enemy, so they adopted stahlhelms pretty quickly because they were better. I also think that a WWI game could be fun and interesting, but that would require a certain degree of separation from the historical sit-in-the-trench-for-hours-while-arty-pours-on-you and charge-to-your-deaths-in-futile-attacks dynamics. It would also require that every junior officer/commander must be vetted as completely incompetent before he can play as TL. WWI has a special place in my heart; I'd like to see a well orchestrated FPS made with it.
