Also paid for it a while ago, then there was rising storm which also included RO2 so i was allready disappointed. But now it becomes free for one day? What the hell did i spend money for then?
It was one of the few games which i didnt buy on sale because i dont have much money to spend for video games, and now you get fooled like this? Didnt ever see such thing in my video game life.
Anyway, everyone who gets it for free have fun and enjoy the game.
We didn't think the DLC route would work with the RO fan base so we went with the expansion route (Rising Storm, which also added the most content to any of our game ever). But as I said, we continue to work on more content for RO 2 (and RS), we just have to be a bit more financially responsible about it then we were in the RO 1 days.
I'll be able to talk about our next content update in the near future.
I can see where you are coming from, but you did get perks when you pre-ordered.
I agree on the no pre-ordering message. I can't think of one time where I've pre-ordered and it has been a good thing. All games seem to be broke or not fit for purpose on release these days.
I think the sales just reached a certain low where you practically have to give the product away just to keep customers interested in what you have to offer. That's why RS will be on sale this weekend, to boosts sales and actually make some money out of the franchise. Also these people might buy future DLC for the game or maybe even RO3. It's a great way to promote your company because people love things that are "free".
It's a very simple and effective business strategy which is used by lots of companies. Every time you see a commercial where something is "free" or you get a "discount" it's purely to persuade you to buy something else, usually things linked to those products.
Another persuasive strategy is the extras you get with pre-purchasing something. Just like "free" people also like "extra" or "special".
Also there's been lots of free content for both RO2 and RS and don't forget you got to play the game for almost 3 years before it went F2P(for a short time). This is just the next logical step to take for the company and their community.
I am glad I've payed full-price on both games, money & time well spent. My money keeps Tripwire going and Tripwire's new content keeps me going.
Seriously some people spend like $49,99 and feel like it's some sort of blood oath with the developers. News flash: It isn't. The game's been dead for a while and now they've brought it back under the hopes people will like it enough to support by purchasing Rising Storm (something you didn't).
Keeping the game at base price with no interest vs. potentially getting more people into the series by distributing it free for a day. There's no contest on what's the wiser choice.
With Rising Storm you have the full product now and RO2 is kind of the broken second choice. Its not really the game you want and, as such, its sales are gonna be rather poor to an informed customer. If you have a bargin bin item nobody wants, give it away. Its a good way of promoting a product.
No thanks.
As for Tripewire: support-schmort. I'm partially disillusioned what with how much DLC they're farting out on Killing Floor.
I don't see why you are angry about the RS situation, apparently the company never explicitly said RO2 buyers would get a free full version. It's nice of them to demo it the way they did, hell, maybe they should let anyone with a steam account play as rifleman in RO1 and RO2, it's not a bad concept. Just let players pick up fallen equipment on the field, but start them with a bolt action rifle and maybe a handgun. This would ensure that servers would always be full. But, hey, that would be a good idea that would make them lots of money.
By going free those, like myself, who paid full price will now have more people to play with. Depending on what region you live in - that is a HUGE deal.
So we are getting MORE value out of our original purchase now that it has gone free. Who cares what others pay or paid. You purchased the game and you get your own enjoyment from it.
So if you are crying about this. Grow up. If the initial spend was enough to cause you stress this far down the road then you really shouldn't be spending that money on games.
First of all i don't understand why people flame you for having an opinion.
You invested in this game and i feel that it is your right to have a second thought on the complany and this free day especially since you preordered.
As a RO2 owner I understand the need to increase the playerbase but i think it's weird that you needed to make the game free and not just have a bigger discount.
Also there is nothing to differentiate between you and the a guy who got it for free.
My only complaint about this is that Rising storm buyers got more of a bargain than RO2 ones.
Since you are limited to a certain class.
All in all i'm rather okay with it except some of the points there but i still think it's weird you have to make it free and not just make a discount on it.
So I guess this is a way to lure in all the people who don't know HB or still weren't sure to buy it(even for a dollar or a fiver).
Like I said earlier, this is more of a strategy to increase playerbase and potential customerbase.
While a couple of thing has happened since that time and I paid full price, I don't care about RO2 being free for one day.
I bought TF2 at full price too and that's been free for quite some time now.... one day free for RO2 isn't anything to compare to imo.
The other factor is that RO2 is a few years old now..... its value drops over time like any other game. In order to keep the game viable and worthwhile adding content to, you need to toss out bait to the masses to suck them back in.
The other thing is that those who get RO2 for free are not getting some super special deal beyond just getting RO2 MP and RO2 SP, as you still have to pay for Rising Storm in order to get the full package these days.... and most of these players will be inclined to pay for that so they get the "Full Experience"
Either way, this has allowed for more of an influx of players to the game, which is currently around 5-6000 players. Before this, the player count for RO2/RS was floating below 1000 on most days.
Having RO2 free for 24 hours isn't much different than the humble bundle weekend they had a while back, where people could but RO2 for peanuts and might as well have been free. The player count sky rocketed by a lot, but again, it dwindled away. Whether the player counts stick around for longer this time, who's to say?
