I recently found this out myself when I just wanted to mess around and chop some bots up...
wow. much difficulty. very honor. so skill

It does level up the weapons during the round but it doesnt count I think. I once killed 1000 friendly bots with the mortar in guadalcanal where they get stuck attacking the 2nd last obj or so but it didnt record it.

You can also lvl weapons with tks but i dont think it counts, it just shows it during the round.

Correct; you level up during the round, but at the end of it the TKs are deducted from your progress, so it gets you nowhere.
