why do people not like playing mod maps for ??

beats me. i haven't played in a while, but i allways play on servers running only custom maps. nothing frustrates mappers more than spending all those hours just to see they can't fill a 40 player server for a proper test. makes them think twice about making any more.

People probably hit F10 when downloading custom maps to go find a regular server and rather not wait it out.

Custom maps are usually awful. I wish I could play exclusively on an 'Official Maps Only' server.

I agree its really hard to find a server running it, but there are custom map events you can attened. Here are a few links :)

Its mainly because of the long downloading time, sometimes you have to wait 5+ minutes for the maps to load and people are impatient so they F10 and join another server.

This annoys me. You download a map once. It has never taken me more than a couple minutes. The custom maps are hit and miss but there are a handful that are AWESOME. Especially a couple of the RS ones......very sad people don't play them. Playing a new map is so intense. I swear someone just needs to make a video of ingame footage with the best few custom maps.
