Best Rifles?
I'd say that the Ariska is really good, along with the kar98 (love the german weapons). But I noticed that the bolting on the Springfield is super slow? Anyone else notice that? (I have manual bolting on). With the Mosin Nagant,Kar98,Ariska, and Type 99 (Japanese sniper rifles) all load way quicker.

So I just wanted to know what the most effective rifle in the game is according to your own experiences in the games, both in Rising Storm and Red Orchesta 2.

Cheers guys

P.S: I tend to only use the bolt action rifles over the semi-autos.

My personal fav is type 38.

Yeah, that's the thing I like about this game. All guns have a different feel and punch to them. Great game, can't endorse it enough.

Perhaps your K98 is lvl-ed higer and the springfield is at noob status; thus the k98 has slightly faster reload time maybe?

I play as Axis most of the time. I really like the feel of the Mosin and use it when I run out of MG ammo ect. I prefer the bolt action rifles to the semi-autos. In real life however I prefer semi-auto over any thing else... But I use the MG34 a lot and do single shots if it's past like 150meters.

I've shot most small arms from WWII in real life and this game did a GREAT job with the cycle rates and sounds. One BIG issue I have is I worked the light mortar class to unlock m1carbine for japanese...the recoil is OVER KILL....I own one in real life, it kicks like a .22 lr lol.

I own a m1 carbine, k98 & the mosin... after playing rising storm I feel compelled to buy an Ariska! Pretty funky round it fires, but still widely manufactured. :)

Hmm, I do play as the Axis a fair bit. I use the springfield a fair bit though, prefer it over the garand any day. I can't stand the iron sights on the M1 Garand, which is weird because in other games I've played, the Garand has been a blast to use. I've held one in real life, it was heavy and bulky as hell! haha.

Wow that's really interesting, to hear that these devs put a lot of effort into the game (That gun fire is so heart pumping). As for shooting these instruments of war in real life, I am not that fortunate haha. I am opting to acquire my gun license soon. But living in Australia, the laws are tough! I would love to fire some of those World War 2 era rifles. But the amount of paperwork to go through, haha. I'm sure it'd be worth it. I plan to grab a Kar98 (in the future of course).

If you do make sure its not a last ditch rifle.

If you're talking about the Ariska, I haven't really looked into it much at all... but I'll research thouroughly before shopping around and have many firearms expert friends/history buffs. I want to make it a point to have a nice "shooter grade" quality firearm from all major factions in WWII. WWI guns are fun too. I have a luger from WWI, we don't shoot that one ;)

I would suggest you to go for type 89 mortar in that case=)

I've seen them for sale here, and it seems to be one of the most common mortars for sale. I'd really like a Russian 50mm for reenacting actually. And mortar role is my fav by far on RS.

Garand beats all, same damage as the bolt-actions except semi-auto and has 8 rounds in it, beats ANYTHING the Japanese have. It's the reason I never play as the Axis in Rising Storm.

As for the other two, I hate the Kar98, I don't actually know why. It feels less powerful and slower than the Mosin Nagant plus I don't care for the sights at all, even with the hood removed. If I get stuck as a German rifleman, chances are I'll pick up any other gun I find laying around, at least until I unlock Mosin for Axis.

@Shindler's Fist

Yeah I'll admit the Garand has awesome power, but the sights just feel too clunky, take up too much of my screen. I never feel satisfied when I land a kill with it for some reason - unless it's a close encounter with a small banzai charge. But with the rifles, it feels like you've really put that enemy soldier down. Haha, guess we just have our preference with each weapon. :)

What's your favourite SMG? (Or LMG)
NETSCAPE Feb 19, 2014 @ 6:23pm
Garand is a great rifle but any game where I can shoot GI Joe, I will. And I agree it takes up too much bloody screen, same with the browning .30 cal.....sight gets so annoying at 200+ meters... I feel like some people tend to be more careless with accuracy when they have a semi-auto rifle. I think the game should force new players to be a rifleman personally. I like using all the bolt action rifles. I feel like I need to master them before I am worthy of G43/SVT ect. For the first time today I messed around with the Japanese Sniper Rifles...those scopes are sweet. But I'm not a sniper....I suck at it. Iron sights all the way...same preference in real life. Takes me too long to pull up on a target fastly with a scope.

And I doubt they would make the K98 less powerful than the Mosin....that'd be stupid. The mosin has a beefier low sound, maybe you're confusing that with the power. It is satisfying to kill someone with a mosin, that's forsure. On the gun sound note, I tend to get most irritated when killed by a BAR, probably because IT'S SO INSANELY BEEFY SOUNDING.
Sleek Elk Feb 19, 2014 @ 6:36pm
I agree with the Mosin, that sound is so deep. But I believe the Kar98 is more powerful, when I snipe with it, or when it's just iron sights. As for sniping... The scoped Kar98 is a real viper for sure. For some reason the U.S weaponry feels a little dry, don't know if you get that vibe as well; but everytime I get a kill with say the BAR, or the M1 Garand, I'm never felt in awe. Don't know why though. The only times I'm ever in awe is when I see a team mate unleash hell fire into some trenches haha, or when I get into close quarters with a Thompson.

I think the German and Russian weapons feel more fleshed out. Even the Japanese have more 'oomph' in their weaponary. Perhaps it was the devs or something, I'm not sure. The Springfield is quite a pretty gun though. Got a 210m shot with it, iron sights once, off the fly too. Was pretty pumped when that happened, haha.

Speaking of sounds, the Russian light machine gun (forget the name now) is a real chomper. Those deep sounds always get my ears pricked up, even when I'm on the Allies side.
