A failure to communicate...
You know what this game needs? Local voice chat. Yes, I realize there is a squad radio, and the command widget and enemy spotted key.

Not the same thing. Local voice chat would be better. I mean, how many times have you rolled up in a public server and ended up with your squad spread out all over the place. Local chat, only heard by people nearby, would be fantastic.

You could type it in Teamchat

True... But I play ARMA and Project Reality- the local VOIP is really, really useful. I just happen to like RS/RO2 better because you're far more likely to drop in on a game and have a positive experience. Local voice is one of the few things I really want in the game.

I really like the idea. Dozens of times, I was inside a bunker with a few teammates when suddenly a nade popped in. I used teamchat to make them aware of it, though most people don't react as they can't know there in the same location as I am. It would finally provide a good way to warn teammates of nearby threats, e.g. nades or satchel charges (even tanks).

agreed, everytime i joined a game there was no real teamwork going on, maybe a few 2 and 3 man teams working together the rest lone wolves. I remember meeting one guy and we tried to work together to get out of a fix but without being able to talk directly to eachother our efforts soon ended in tragedy. Squad chat is often too busy and there are often multiple conversation going on.

It's a great idea! I'd love to see it implemented!

It's been suggested a million times and TWI have always said it's not possible with their audio engine.

This I did not know, and it's a real bummer. The game needs it.

Yeah, I would love this feature as well. I love its implementation in Insurgency.

Proximity chat works pretty well in Planetside 2. A lot of the hits or misses are based on the users, but overall it works

Agreed, ArmA released in 2007 and ArmA2 has direct chat with a local proximity of 30-40m.

I think it would be extremely helpful... but twi will never implement it... never.

Pfft. Good luck. The Comma Rosa and local Voice Chat is a chaotic mess.
Good luck trying to get anyone to actually coordinate an effective assault.
