Waste of time and money
Just bought Insane with the hope that it will have something similar to the original Insane game which I miss even today.

This sequal of the game doesn't qualify to be related to the original game. Just after 4 minutes of the game play, I couldn't find driver camera view. You can't change your view using your mouse pointer. Damage on the car is so superficial that the physique engine doesn't look the same is the original. I just wasted my money on this today.

Just picked this up and it has a close and a far view, and I'm about 15% through the campaign (raced about 50 races so far) and I can confirm that the damage model is really good. In fact, I don't think Ive seen any racing game that looked this good while also running as smooth as it does. If your playing the same game as I am, I have to wonder that you can say this game is bad, even if it didn't fulfill whatever memories you have of the first one. I was debating on this one for a long time since there was no demo, and frankly the game has exceeded all of my expectations. You should try playing it with an xbox controller and for more than 4 minutes before you say its a waste of money. You really really need a 360 controller if your going to play race games on a computer IMO.

is this game freeroam?
There's no free roam but its good. I"m still hooked.. up to 11 hours now and completed 30% of the campaign. Definitely need an xbox360 controller.

It has some freeroam type races with 'wrap around' maps.

WHAT A JOKE... I bought this game and was upset that it didnt allow racing wheels or any controller other than an Xbox controller. I decided to use an emulator to allow using a racing wheel. What a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME... THIS GAME IS #%*!*%# AWFUL!!!!! I'd rather play the original Insane on an IPOD from 10 feet away with a makey makey hooked to a #(!@*$% bowl of fruit salad than play this game. Does anyone know how to remove this game from your games list???? I never want to be reminded of this game again....

Did you have any problems with it launching at all?

Lots of more recent games only support xinput and no direct input anymore. I guess you'll have to get over it.. Insane 2 is as arcade as it gets, and those kind of games tend to feel wrong with a wheel anyway. The game has nice graphics, the driving mechanics are awesome, and the game modes are fun for the most part. Saying this is a terrible game just because it doesn't support your wheel doesn't seem very justifiable.

This game is very similar to MOTORSTORM for the PS3.

I tried to find a game that was close to as bad as this so I could comment and make any sort of comparison......

Its insane that the makers of the original Insane would allow this game to EVER bear that name. But in reality it's absolutely insane that most of the people on Steam havent even heard of this game! The original Insane was SOOO awesome! What a shame. Toca 2 ..... Sports Car GT.... and now we're stuck with NFS .... Oh well .. it will come full circle. If only people would start paying for some games again....

No far chase or in car camera. No levels and no free roam and most of all it's not realistic flying around doing 300 mls/hour....still a good game.

i havent played this game yet because i dont think its worth the £15 (more like £5). i would pay the £15 if it had steam workshop, so modders can make this game like the orignal and people can choose how they play the game, modded or not. i loved the original and i want this game just not at that price. I hope to one day see this game with workshop and lots of fun mods but till then it will take for a major price drop or an improvment bofore i buy.

It's the closest we'll get to motorstorm on PC, so it's good in that respect, shame that nobody plays it.

Jamboree, Greed and Pathfinder events don't count as free roam? I'd say they do, unless you meant wander aimlessly through the map.
In Jamboree you get a bunch of gates and one is enabled at a time, you don't know which one is the next.
In Pathfinder, all are enabled.
In Greed, crates are parachuted all over the map, all the time, and whoever collects the most, wins.
All fun. No clue about the camera. Will look for that next time.

I'm definitely interested in this game. Love off-road, and been looking for a new racing game besides the NFS series.
