Non-GOTY owners getting GOTY for FREE
The GOTY has been added to my library for FREE! It seems that if you own the non-GOTY edition you're getting the GOTY for FREE.

Actually, you aren't getting anything for free. Steam is only selling the GOTY Editions now that they are providing the server of the games, so you are getting THEIR version.

How is it not free? I've had the regular version since 2009, and now they gave me access to the GOTY. A lot of other publishers wouldn't do that, they would at least make you buy a GOTY upgrade or something.

How do you know if you got it for Bioshock 2?

Right-click on Bioshock 2 -> Properties -> DLC

Yeah this makes no sense. People with regular versions which has no DLC are getting the GOTY ver with all dlc included for nothing along with their previous regular copy. I think you misunderstood something because I had originally just Arkham City and now I have Arkham City GOTY in my library and i didn't pay anything for it.

What about GfWL Retail copies? Will we be able to redeem them over Steam for a free GotY copy just like BioShock 2?
Faintestidea 17 Paź, 2013 - 11:54
Yep, it's in there :)

What I meant to say is that Steam doesn't sell the "normal" version of the games. They only sell the GOTY Editions, so that is why everybody got them for "free." The only way you can buy them is as GOTY Editions from now.

Steam doesn't sell the regular versions anymore, so you just got their "new" version of the game. It isn't like they decided to give them for free. It is something that they chose to do after supporting both game with Steam. Before, there were 4 Batman games: The 2 regulars and the 2 GOTY Editions. Now you can only see 2. You already "paid" for the GOTY Editions.

That's still nonsense, steam can provide you with any game download, even those no longer available or removed from the store. WB wasn't able to update the base games because that would've been Square Enix's job. Instead of abandoning their customers WB decided to upgrade all the base games to GOTY, hence giving people free stuff the didn't pay for.

Is not so HARD to understand what people are talking about here. It's a goodwill gesture if anything, even though it was the correct thing to do for their customers since updating the base versions is just not possible but not many companies do the "right thing" most of the time.

That makes no sense. I gave them money in exchange for a product. Now they've given me another product. I paid for one thing. Now I've another, including all the DLC I didn't pay for, for free.

And, while there is now only the one version of Arkham Asylum for sale on the store, I now hove two in my library: Arkham Asylum and Arkham Asylum GOTY Edition. Both are available to download. Both still have seperate Steam Community Hub pages. I also have other games that used to be available on Steam are no longer, Indigo Prophecy for one, still available for download even though it's no longer for sale.

Anyway, downloading AA:GOTY at the moment, waiting to see if saves and acheivements will transfer over. :-)

Mine is still non-GOTY. I have all the DLC anyway before the GOTY version was released.
Have you checked your libray? For AA it was added as a new game rather than patched on top.
