Coming into this game from Sniper Ghost Warrior 1, I wasn't expecting much. I gave that a negative review even though I tried very hard to like it, but comparing this game to its predecessor blew my mind.
Let's start listing some things. I'll be combining Pros with Cons since some things offset each other.
+The graphics are BEAUTIFUL. This game running on Cryengine puts its predecessor on the Chrome engine in the dust.
+The story in this is slow to start going, but once you get into it you just want to keep going. It's very immersive and intriguing and I wish it was longer.
-The point of 'longer' is true. I beat this game's campaign in 4 hours. Hardly enough time to enjoy everything the game had to offer.
+But what else did it have to offer? Well the general gameplay mechanics are much better. The mission flow is much smoother. There are much less gameplay bugs to be found in this game. It makes it predecessor look half-asses in comparison.
-However, the game does suffer from a severe lack of optimizations. For one, the V-Sync does not work. For two, the game suffered so many graphical glitches on DX9 that it was rendered unplayable. DX-11 ran correctly, but not as smoothly. With my beast of a rig I was only able to mantain an average of 50 fps (Meanwhile I can run games like Arma 3 with well over 120 fps). Lastly, I experienced one CTD while playing the second mission of the first act. Not sure if its a common thing or a one-off, but I feel obliged to mention it.
- The multiplayer is eh. It's just two teams staring at each other across the map, taking shots at each other, while one guy on each team is running around rambo as if this is call of duty, and at least one person is smack-talking every other person in the match. It doesn't do much to extend the life of the game. A co-op mode would have really helped this game.
Overall this game blows its predecessor out of the water. I'll give this an 8/10 for what it is. If it was properly optimized, if the story was a bit longer, or if the multiplayer was really worth playing, it may have earned a higher score. This is still twice the rating I gave to its predecessor, and so I would definitely recommend picking this title up whenever you get the chance.
