ETA on Linux/SteamOS Support?
Whats the ETA on Linux support? You switched from ut4 to unity right, should hopefully make Linux support easier.

Really looking forward to playing this and would love to participate in the Alpha on Linux.

/me proud owner of a copy of the Loki Myth II port.

I want to support Linux and Unity does make that a lot easier, but I don't have the resources to make sure that Linux isn't treated like a second class target for us. I've considered releasing "experimental" linux support (which is basically a way of saying that we don't guarantee the experience). I'm open to feedback on this.

I'd be happy to assist with testing and with identifying/resolving issues (something I've done in the past for a number of other Unity titles) if stable, supported Linux builds are something you want to eventually aim toward.

You could think about making Linux builds available to select testers while not advertising it as a supported platform (ie no SteamOS icon on the store page). I believe this is doable on the Steam partner site by setting the checkbox for the platform you want to publish on vs configuring the depots. The idea would be to keep half an eye on how Linux support is tracking while not actually committing any real time to it while you are focused on getting the alphas/betas polished. The intent I guess would be to make it easier to enable Linux support (or make a call on not supporting) when a suitable time came.

The idea would be to get a few testers who could provide useful feedback and bug reports without being needy and entitled, I think I fit that bill and can probably get a few more of those type of users involved if required.

I do like the idea, let me talk to fisj about it. The big stumbling block is time: I can hit build and upload you guys a linux build but what do we do if there are issues? I can't promise a commitment to fixing anything on linux until the workload lightens up (I am the only programmer). I am open to the idea of pushing linux builds and seeing what happens though, as long as it's clear that it's a side project until a later date.

My suggestion would be to do a build, make it available to a couple of users that you trust, and see what the lay of the land is before popping it onto Steam. If it's not playable, then there's no value in moving forward until you have time to give it.

If it is playable, but has some rough edges, keeping it in a beta branch might be appropriate? Be aware that if there's launch config, the game will still show up in users libraries even though there's nothing in the main branch - when I was working on Day of the Tentacle Remastered's Linux port, I wrote a small app to put in the main branch which just displayed a window saying that the game was coming soon (if it's helpful, there are some details toward the end of this section[cheesetalks.net] of an article I wrote on the process and I was able to release source code for that).

If there are engine level bugs, I can help get those looked at upstream.

I agree with cheese, hit build and make it availble to a few handpicked people outside of steam. Get some feedback as to the current state. If its significantly broken put it on hold until you have time, if its going pretty well then you have the option of putitng it on steam and getting more input and testers.

Whatever you decide is cool though can understand if you don't need the distraction right now :)

I think letting a few people test for you, before putting out a public experimental Beta would be a good idea.

I for one would be very interested in seeing this on Linux.

I would be happy to test too :)

Things are busy right now working on campaign and other tasks. Once those are wrapped up I'll look at making an experimental build on linux.

Just saw PC Gamer cover it, really hoping we get to try it on Linux. We need a game like this :D

I just about bought this, then saw it didn't have Linux support. Loved Myth, and was looking for a new Myth-like game (Only kind of RTS I like) and found this a while back, and waited to buy it. But I just don't boot into Windows very often, and so would prefer to buy games for Linux. Here's to hoping we can get a Linux build to play with! I'm also quite good at troubleshooting if there is the need.

I need linux support too. I have one win10 machine (under repair) and linux only notebook and other desktops. Lot of linux user have to use win too, and this is because they buy under games under win, but they need linux support too. I usually prefer linux supported games.
