Decaying Structures? Drake!
Do buildings decay or last forever? There's alot of concern around this so I hope this gets answered. Otherwise they'll end up being more bases than npc's... And that is especially true for PVE.

Structure decay will exist in PvE. It is currently disabled in PvP but we may re-enable it later. Basically, if the structure has been inactive for a long time, it'll gradually lose health. Simply being around the structure, on your team, will prevent that from happening, or you can repair it when you return. Seems unnecessary on PvP where it is likely players will take a special glee in destroying structures they find scattered throughout the world.

That depends, if a wall goes down and the loot is gone, why would PVP's bother destroying the rest of the base? They are only out to break down the required doors to score loot. Not completely destroy the base. Unless it's some big tribal war thing going on. And even then I can't see people needlessly destroying walls and empty shacks etc.

Moreso that the thinking is, decay will hopefully be unnecessary in PvE due to the gradual desire for land and territory, and in any case derelict abandoned player structures here and there could make the world more interesting and lived-in. But in PvE it is indeed necessary to prevent the server from becoming permanently overclogged. We can add it as an option separate from the game mode, and enable it on Official PvP servers if it seemingly becomes necessary as well.

Tbh even just a slower decay in PvP could be nice. I mean i'll be playing on a PvP server (at least initially) but I won't be completely destroying peoples bases or killing for no reason. I'm sure there are other people like me too, which could mean that bases don't get wiped out as quickly as Dev's think. If that's something you're going to monitor though then no worries here.

Drake maybe have a skill you can learn to salvage base parts of ones you have destroyed? Say a wall is still standing or random parts you acquire this skill and with a special tool you are able to salvage a certain amount of resources used to construct the parts

if i can get some of the Resource they used to build the base by taking it down then i dont see why players would not take down everything.

Ok, thanks for your replies! I just find it strange that alot of other survival games are doing everything they can to remove items from the game world that's not needed. In H1Z1 when players havn't logged into a server for 2-4 weeks the buildings start to decay on any server and there are a ton of empty buildings still lying around. It kinda removes immersion. Right now your game is performance heavy. I don't know it's even possible but for you guys to say the game doesn't grind into a halt with over 10,000 npcs walking around amazes me. Most games take a performance hit with a few hundred animated npc's. You guys must have some crazy optimisation techniques to handle all the objects in the game world. What I don't understand is you guys are de-spawning corpses 15 minutes out from death probably due to performance? But pretty soon your going to have a server full of empty houses with their gates torn off and hundreds of fences that will clutter the game world. Erm. Anyway I'll leave it there, I already know what's going to happen. You guys said you'll update pretty quickly so... First month in: Devs "We have decided to put building decay in all servers of the game." Lol. And if you do I want a prize for being right. hehe.

In PvP I think you are incorrect,
I have not wiped my server for a month and I have scattered mess all over the server and no one wants to waste their supplies or time destroying therm.
can you please add a option for decay for pvp decay. I think its a must for busy servers..
Its getting way past the time it needs a wipe and I don't want to wipe it..

It's becoming a problem in PvP too, with abandoned metal foundations littering the landscape. Destroying them is a helluva chore. Would be happy if they'd just waste away on their own. Let nature take back what is theirs.

all of these problems are a result of the stupid 100 meter radius barren zone that surrounds foundations. REDUCE IT!

It happens, people get immense joy destroying someone elses structure/base, even in pve with the timer, you can ask in any pve server that people do enjoy doing it and probably more so in pvp.

On PvP server this might be even bigger issue than PvE. Tribe gets raided so they leave server with their bases standing up. Wooden are not problem, but metal ..., nobody wants to spend days of farming to destroy all metal foundations. What is even more sad, some tribes are trolling and before leave, they build metal foundations around other tribe bases. Farming 90 grenades to take 1 cheap metal foundation when they build 10 around your base is pretty unfair. Lot of players from PvP servers will leave just because of playing area swarmed with abandoned metal bases.
Rawkiller 28 jul, 2015 @ 9:22
We had to abandon our main base because a player deleted his toon thinking that a new toon with the same name from his steam account would acquire ownership... nope. now we cant build. open doors, or destroy the base.

I tore down what I could but the investment to rid the server of the eye sore would be ENORMOUS... No one, NO ONE will ever make that investment.

You can't expect us to become ARK EPA and rid the server of junk. Add a button for TRIBE owner to demolish ALL structures of people who ARE and WERE in the tribe. IMO
