Station capture and ODS
In another thread, @dsmart mentions...

I'm surprised the ODS didn't destroy the station tbh.

So, @dsmart knows what's actually going on in the code. In my case, I'm looking at a black box.

From what I've seen, stations normally ignore a hostile local ODS. A local hostile ODS will ignore the local station.

It would be kinda cool if an ODS was close enough to a station to help defend it; you would be forced to take the ODS out prior to capturing the station. The ODS would blow up the station with you in it as soon as you took it over.

But I've never had to do that. I've always been able to capture a station and pretty much ignore the ODS. The only thing an ODS does is prevent me from launching my fighters, since they will invariably attempt to attack it (which is a fast way to lose a fighter and any experience the pilot had gathered).

It depends on how close the ODS is to the station does it not? I've had ODS's fire at me before if I was close enough while heading to a station

I always jump to the supply station that is located within ~1-2 KM of any station. I haven't had an ODS take a pot shot at me while doing so.

That's because they won't fire if they stand a chance of hitting a friendly target.

Steam doesn't appear to want to show it, but here's how to capture a station by your lonesome.
