Jay_rab, good sir. A (possibly) silly question... but is it safe to assume that you must have proof-of-purchase (i.e. a Steam account with verified TB purchase) in order to be considered a valid contestant?

In other words... pirates can't swoop in and claim the booty, right? I only ask because it would suck for those of us that actually purchased TB. :)

Call me paranoid (I am.) Call me a noob (I am.) But I thought it was a fair question. XD

(Okay, lates... I gotta game to write!)

I'm probably going to buy the engine anyway, but...

I do assume it's more about the writing and use of engine that the assets, right?

I don't know what are the default assets, but I assume there will some basic sound effects, music and characters, right?

In other words, I should have enough to worry just about the story and forget about creating my own (probably terrible) assets?

The rules page reads...
"- Assets must be free of copyright claims (i.e. original or available for use without infringement of license) "

So you can either use assets that specifically state they can be used for projects (commercial or not) or you have to make your own. At least, that is what I take from the above quote from the rules.

I think you're better off at least making your own actors and using appropriate Creative Commons images for your backgrounds.

My personal goal is 100% original visual assets, then using royalty free music and sound effects from my personal library. This month is going to be a challenge... but that's the point! XD

Good luck, everyone! Let's have fun!

But TyranoBuilder's assets are "free" to use in any of their games, right?

I have RPGMaker and it has it's own characters, sound effects and music, so I assume goes for this engine too?

As I pixel artist I don't think pixel art would do well with a visual novel, not to mention it would look good enough as the art I see in the screenshots.

YES

IT'S HERE.

I believe so. But unless I am mistaken TB's asset library only consists of a few backgrounds and a few actor assets with various emotions/poses. I think the selling point is the ease-of-use of the engine, not pre-made, royalty-free assets (like with RPGMaker.)

Part of RPGMaker's heafty price (I believe) is all of those ready-to-use assets. TyranoBuilder is only around $15 US at full price with the promise of not only free license to publish and even sell your games, but the ability to do so across multiple platforms.

And the ability to change the screen size above 640x480 (had to get a jab at VX ACE in there, sorry.)

Jay_rab... another question in addition to the one several posts up...

Does the "30 minute" guidline include diverging paths or one solid play-through?

If, for example, 15 minutes into the game you get a branch that contains two seperate paths that last roughly 20 minutes each. Does that count as one 35 minute game (getting only one ending) or a 55 minute game (seeing all possible endings)?

Hope that question makes sense. Thanks for your help! ;)
