Total War: SHOGUN 2
Should we really bother getting ROME 2?
The game really looks nice and all, I am guessing the campaign will be fun but the problem is all service that will be provided by CA on fixing the game, for instance for the S2 COOP campaigns took forever to be fixed of all the desyncs, which becomes frustrating as you have to redo some turns or start off with a new campaign. Looking at the past history of Shogun 2 patches, there is a pretty long delay in most of their patches going from 1 week which isnt so bad to like 3 months. IDK for all of you but 3 months to fix something (not entirely fixed) is kind of long wait, even my patience runs thin at times.

Even in multiplayer theres things that are broken, Fatigue system doesn't work properly in the sense that units do not take speed and melee penalties as they tire(its been tested to a degree and fatigue penalty only works on morale) I doubt it works in singleplayer as well. And many other tidbits that can be irritating. Even when they change something they manage to break something along the way for exmaple, when CA released the assembly kit, they broke the lobbies a 2nd time. Sure this wont affect most of you solo players but the time it took CA to fix that problem was like 2-3 weeks. Not so bad, but it would have been nice for a quick fix. Not everyone likes playing mixed avatars due to how one sided it can be.

Though in laymans terms, is ROME 2 gonna be worth getting, judging from Shogun 2's customer support on patches being a tad, late and problematic.

Hey, if you want to miss out on the Game of the Year of 2013, it's up to you. Considering their sizable budget (40% more than any other total war game) and larger staff, I think that they will have the means and the time to iron out more of these bugs this time around.
problem for you is most people dont give a ♥♥♥♥ about multiplayer in total war games, maybe 1% plays it more than a few times..

but ofcourse rome 2 will be worth it.. if a few bugs here and there are keeping people from buying a game, they wont be gaming at all
I always thought that Coop campaign was the selling point of S2 seeing as you can not only play campaign but with a friend as well, and who doesn't like playing with a friend who you can screw over? Though the desyncs were a kill joy. Just don't want to wait another month for a 10mb patch just so Rome 2's coop campaign gets fixed if you catch my drift.

Though I am not arguing Rome 2 won't be a GOTY considering Shogun 2 was a GOTY and since its basically the same gameplay its obvious Rome 2 will be a GOTY. But I was just judging CA's patch support from their past games.

Of course you don't have to buy it, but i think it will be the best total war yet.
I don't care much for the online experience in TW games, I have always focused on the single player experience only. I have around over 450 hours on S2 alone and only about 20 of those hours were ever spent online. I do sympathize with you, I know some fans are really big into multiplayer and co-op. Still though, I plan on buying Rome 2 as soon as it is available for purchase, might even buy a collector's edition or something. I don't think in my entire life have I ever been so excited over a game, I simply can't wait to play Rome 2.

I would recommend that nobody buy Rome 2 or any other CA/SEGA products. They simply cannot be trusted to release stable games and are renowned for abysmal customer support. For owners of AMD ND 7XXX series cards, Shogun 2 ran in DX11 mode without issue until the release of Fall of the Samurai. Since then, if your CPU has a socket set other than 1155, the game will crash with 100% reliability. It doesn't matter if you bought FOTS or not, Stem auto-updated the core game code and fried the game for everyone.

It's been 8 months and CA has done nothing to address the problem. Their tech guys on the official game forum used to lazily respond once every few weeks or so, but only to say they forwarded all posts on to AMD. Now, they can't be bothered to respond at all.

I'd urge everyone to send a message to CA and refuse to buy any more of their products.
Speaking as a Total War veteran, my knee-jerk reaction is "Have you ever played Rome: Total War? Because if you had, 'should I even bother with Rome 2' would sound absolutely ridiculous."

I've touched Total War multiplayer outside of Shogun 2 exactly never, because multiplayer in every other Total War game is, honestly, bland. It's always been about the single player campaign for me, and for most Total War players I've heard from. Hell, at this point Medieval II (which barely has multiplayer at all, and even then it's more of an afterthought) is still my favorite Total War game. Even if the Rome 2 multiplayer is glitchy and crap, my reaction will be HOLY CRAP I AM PLAYING A *MULTIPLAYER* ROME: TOTAL WAR CAMPAIGN, because it's amazing that the Total War team got it working AT ALL with Shogun 2.

As long as Rome 2 eliminates the seige dynamic of "every soldier is spiderman" and makes arrow-tracking turn-off-able, it will probably be among the best games ever, simply by virtue of being F___ING ROME MOTHERF___ING 2 TOTAL F___ING WAR.
well i wouldnt say shogun 2s mp is bland mighty twig but I would say that the ai is quite bland. I've played sp and mp of shogun 2 and have to say the only thing that will keep me playing this game is mp becuz of how lame the battles are in the sp campaign. Don't get me wrong sp is great but the battles are just so one sided i got tired of them quick especially after playing mp where every battle is a fight to the death. Shogun 2 is my first total war game I've played mp and i hav to say i enjoy it quite a bit the avatar mode is a nice edition although its a little unbalanced at times I hope they do something similiar in Rome 2. That being said I cant wait for Rome 2 both for the sp and mp both of which are awesome parts of the game and to be honest if u havnt played both youve been missing out.

Yep, coop in shogun can be so fantastic, I just posted a story actually. I will not be getting rome 2 off the bat. I'll let it get patched, drop a tad in price first. I don't want the game being buggy as, like shogun, so patience will be required. Or they just release the game when it is ready without all the patches needed.
I hope the budget they've been given doesnt just go to making the game look nice.

agreed but i have played more MP in previous Total War games to be frank i hate Shogun 2s and it turned it into a boosting grind fest where it is not balanced at all. But most of my time on Total War games is Single player i think the two TW games i played online most were Rome 1 and Empire witch are probably my two favorite TW games i will be getting Rome 2 for 1 im a die hard collector of the series and 2. It just looks good so far other than what all games have bugs at release and throughtout the games life and yes hopefully CA will fix these glitches faster than they have on the steam era of TW games.
The big issue isn't whether the game itself is enjoyable, whether multiplayer works perfectly smoothly or if the AI is varied enough. I loved playing Shogun 2, but there are hundreds maybe thousands of us out here who can't get the game to work, period. Failing to start or crashing so constantly it might as well not work. I've been shut out for almost a year, many other people for even longer. Despite dozens of innovative solutions from fans there's still far too many of us who still can't make it work, and there's little or no meaningful help through official channels or patches. If so many people can't be sure if Rome 2 will even work if we buy it, a lot of us aren't going to make the bet. Buying a product shouldn't be like using a slot machine, but after Shogun 2 that's the way a lot of us are starting to view SEGA products. Personally, I'm torn between how much I have enjoyed the Total War series, the latest game especially, and all the days I've shot trying to make Shogun 2 work again over the past year. At the very least, I'll be waiting for a few months after release to see how many people can't make it work but I'm on the edge of ditching the franchise outright and I'm far from alone.
Braver stfu, you're gonna put 2,000+ hours on Rome 2 just like Shogun and we're gonna be #1 in 2v2s
Hello,
Embrace yourself, the Total War Rome 2 Dlc winter is coming. If you have the money to spend 200 dollars for the full game then yes it is totally worth it. If not you should wait for the inevitable sale. I bet TWR2 will be 60% off in the winter sale. Including day one Dlc greek city states. So wait and drink tea.

Look what Relic did to Company of Heroes 1.5 after joining SEGA. It has 40 Dlcs. It is more a free to play game with a ton of micro-transaction then a full price AAA title. And it is not fun to play.

I played Rome 1 1000s of hours including the many excellent user modifications. A new rome? No thanks the old is doing just fine.

Have a nice day
