Shogun 2 won't start, tried everything but offering my grandmother to steam god.
Configuration :
Intel Core 2 Duo E 7200 2,53 GHz
6 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850
Win 7 64
But I know that this game works on this computer, I've already played it here, and with high details and huge units.
And won it several times.

So far I've tried:

reinstalling the game
verifying (number of times)
deleting ClientRegistry.blob and AppUpdateStats.blob
deleting files in the AppData/Roaming/The Creative Assembly etc (scripts, FX,UI, batle pref)
Disabling the steam community setting.
Disabling Anti-virus.

Nothing.

But, I noticed something interest : After start of the game, the process starts (only for a brief moment) and even appears in Windows Task Manager.
And: in this moment, next to a list of games in my library, next to Total War Shogun 2 flashes SYNCING.

But still, nothing happens.

Can anyone help? I'm so desperate I'll shortly start headbutting the wall, already spent 5 hours googling and trying to make this game work.

Now I've reassured myself that I have latest drivers, graphics and audio both, uninstalled all the vc++, 2005,2008,2010, downloaded them from microsoft and installed them again, forbidden steam cloud synchronization, and...nothing. What might help admins is this: Whenever I start benchmark, no matter on 720 or 1080, it still shows 0 FPS.

Thank you in advance, hope that we'll solve in, another three hours trying to make it work..

Hi Jonas,

Would you mind creating a new thread on our official forums? The tech mods and myself will be able to have a thorough look at your problem there.
Our official support forums can be found here:

Hi, I've already posted it there and someone helped me, the solution - in case anyone wants to know is to go to C:/Users/YOUR NAME/AppData/Roaming/The creative assembly/logs/modified.log and delete all files from /Steam/steamapps/common/shogun 2/data, which are on the list. Works like a charm.

But I have another problem, the graphics - compared to "old" S2:TW, graphics in S2:TW RoS is much worse, but that is probably caused by detection of my card and (wrong) thinking that it can't meet the requirements. Too bad.

Have you tried manually deleting those files? That helped me, nothing else did but this..

I actually flagged the post above, because I couldn't understand what he was trying by makink people delete files in the "data" folder however it turns out he is right. And I am sorry for flagging your post.

After trying everything in here and CA forums, I did just as Jonas said and went to "C:\Users\D\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Shogun2\logs" then opened the txt file named modified. Inside it there were file names that were located in Shogun 2 "data" folder.

I simply cut (just in case =D) the files given in the "modified" as:
"patch10.pack unknown file
patch11.pack unknown file
patch12.pack unknown file
patch13.pack unknown file
patch14.pack unknown file
patch15.pack unknown file"

Voila! It worked.

Thanks Jonas. ^^'

Ronin Dec 11, 2012 @ 12:24am
I had this same problem, did what you said, Shogun started, and it stops at the main loading screen.
baia74 Dec 11, 2012 @ 1:42am
Every time i reinstall both Shogun and Steam, my "modified.log " is always empty... should be like this or by performing install is missing something?

I used to play the game alot, then I wanted to play it the past couple of days after not playing it for months and it does not work! Im getting very frustrated as what seems that all the solutions just lead to another crash. It makes me really mad that I paid money for a game, and now it does not work, oh well... there goes over 100$ down the drain..*sigh*
