Why do Portuguese Tercos speak in pure English?
Like if Im not mistaken, C.A. as put the languages that each country speaks when you are playing with it since Empire.

If they got the extra work to put the Portuguese Tercos speaking pure english why didnt they even think on puting them speak Portuguese?

You dont need to be a genious to think of that at some time.

No really if they got the work to make them speak English why not make it right?
They made kind of a good job in FoTS, old units speak Japonese, new untis English and if Im right each foreign unit speaks its language or at least have the accent

I've noticed that the Romans in ROME II speak English, too, instead of Latin or Italian.

Maybe C.A. decided to not give units their native language anymore.

Perhaps its too expensive to get the voices...

Or pointless if you can't understand it,

I quite like it. It's more... immersion into the game that way.

Didn't most of the Romans speak/write in Greek most of the time anyway though? Like the early proper English nobles who spoke mostly French at court? To the point where some libraries were known to have a Greek/Latin split in them?

Also we don't have a full understanding of a lot of languages at that time (especially barbarian/dead languages with few/no written remains)? It'd be a bit hard for a dev team who were already under the pump to push the game out earlier than they wanted to go and implement some half-baked ~historical~ native language system into the game.

E: Unless you want to go the Age of Empires rout where the unit barks are just whatever sound bites they could come up with that sound like the culture they're trying to capture, which mostly works.

Apparently they were highly trained, with an education in other languages ;)

Because CA are Cheap.

Otomo DLC is a DLC that can be hastily and easily made for CA. It wasn't something like FoTS, which CA pour lots of time and work.

All CA needed was a new startpos, some db works, and several dull new unit variantmodels. For an unit that does not even add new European weapons - the unit reuses Japanese Matchlock and 19th Century FoTS Sabre instead of 16th Century Straight Swords. I'm not even expecting CA would record Portuguese voiceovers for merely an half-assed unit-making.
CA just doesnt care about a single unit unfortunatly from a secondary DLC. it was easier to them to put the tercos speaking english rather then recording Portuguese voices. On FOTS however and like some people pointed out more effort was taken to change that on British,US and french units coz of it being a main DLC/Expansion to the base game. Its sad but typical of CA.

Its almost like people with English versions of the game wont understand what they're saying, and thus will miss out on the funny voices present in Rome 1 and Medieval 2.

Maybe its that. Just maybe.

Well in that line of site perhaps C.A. shouldnt even translate a single game and should translate the Japonese voices to english because I cant even understand them.

I hope I can make you realise that your comment was not the best and its no excuse for them seaking in English.

This is the dumbest complaint of the game I hope you guys realise. I have literally seen zero complaints about this outside of this thread in years, no one actually cares about this.

Couldn't they just recycle some voices from Empire/Napoleon for the Tercos?
Well, I presume they were just too lazy and stingy. They didn't even add bayonets + new animations into FotS. Guess marketing is more important than content.

i agree they could have added so much more with traders, the dutch and spain also traveled close to japan, but no they just but in the bare minimum, matchlock monks are better when there fully upgraded
