What Total War should I buy next?
I currently own Shogun 2 (Love it) and Rome 2 (Hate it). I really want to buy either Napoleon Total War or Empire Total War next. Empire looks more interesting to me because the naval combat looks more realistic from the YouTube videos i've seen of it campared to Napoleon and the fact that you can play as the 13 colonies in Empire sounds cool too. My questions I guess are the following:
#1 Napoleon or Empire?
#2 Does Empire and Napoleon still looks good graphically?
#3 Does Empire and Napoleon (Mostly Empire) still have lots of issues like bugs and ai issues?

That's mostly it. Any answers would be awesome. Any more info would be great too.

I only have Empire, it still looks good. What I've heard from others ppl say empire is better then Napoleon, but thats based on "rumors". As far as I know there arent any ai bugs in the game, and I'd recommend u to buy it if u like strategy games.

FOTS was a lot of fun, one of the best expansions I've ever played. Although more of a challenge you can go with all traditional units or a mix. Ironclads are a lot of fun if you enjoy naval battles.

edit:FOTS

My vote would be FOTS followed by Empire.

FOTS is what I meant to recommend as well (Can't believe I said ROTS and talking about ironclads. ROTS was good but not a masterpiece like FOTS imo)

Empire has a better campaign with a larger map but beware, the AI is just plain ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, it can't do ♥♥♥♥ about the gunpowder combat for some reason, you'll see 2k armies vs 2k armies facing off and losing like 200 soldiers every battle unless you give the AI some serious buff mods.

I tried darthmod and it made the AI less ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but it also broke the game's balance and it felt far too easy IMO.

Napoleon has a MUCH better, really, it's much ♥♥♥♥ing better, the combat, it's challenging and the AI will actually try to shoot you, it won't leave the forts making huge lines across the map for no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason or leave their general to die marching back and fort while you shoot it with a lone militia unit, but the campaign map is quite limited and there aren't many choices which I really hate.

FoTS is a masterpiece IMO, if they made Empire total war with a copy paste of FoTS AI and mechanics it could easily be the best TW game on the market.

I think i'd rather deal with the bad ai than have a small map and less factions. I think i'll get Empire. I tried the demo and it was pretty cool. Is the ai still really bad though? Like what it was at release I heard?

They aren't mutually exlusive you know, FOTS goes on sale regularly, as does Empire.

As for the AI, well, come back and let us know what you think of it, I suspect you're not maybe quite aware just how brain dead the AI is in TW games that cover large maps.

I heard that the patches fixed most of the ai issues though? Rome 2 ai was terrible though, more than any other TW im guessing

the battles in Empire are pretty cool, at least i thought they were, cannons and line infantry, it was good stuff

but from a game play stand point, FOTS/S2/ROTS are all more of a challenge

really though, you can pick up either one and have fun, so jump on empire, it sounds like the way you are leaning, unless you are just dead set to do it immediately though, i'd hold off for the next sale when you could pick both of them dirt cheap - like buy both for the cost of either one right now

oh, and as for Rome 2 AI, it suffers from the same issue i mentioned above, CA does not do a very good job of handling large maps, the AI either acts brain dead or it's boring, or usually both - the grand campaign of Rome 2 is a snoozefest - yet shrink it down to CIG, and viola, suddenly the AI in a confined space knows what to do and your job, should you for example take up the task as Casear, becomes really rather difficult as all the barbarians proceed to come primarily after you pretty much right off the bat in what feels a lot like S2 Realm Divide

Empire TW is/was as bad as Rome 2 TW same with Napoleon and same with RTW and MTW2. If you want a great TW game other than Shogun 2 TW then get MTW1 the origional with Viking Invasion and the XL mod. Best TW evah. ;_)

Nothing like release, the AI couldn't even do naval invasions so playing England meant god-mode, you would never get attacked through the entire game, also every unit would just charge and ignore their own weapons.

But it's still pretty bad, the AI can't form a proper line to shoot at you, often overlapping armies, they move around while you stand still and keep shooting and reloading, cavalry goes for a charge but the moment you stop moving, face them and start shooting they go in brain-freeze mode and run around in circles dying, it just can't do combat with gunpowder units at all.

In fact here's a screenshot:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=230497242

In this scenario the AI attacked an empty town while I had reinforcements nearby, the reinforcements were entering the map so the AI faced backwards, I had 2 basic militia units in town, I got behind their formation with those 2 and stood there, shooting their general, it didn't try to move at all, it just sat there for 5 minutes and lost it's general.

It's a shame really because Empire had the potential to be the best TW game IMO.

Meanwhile in Napoleon I'm having a hard time not losing almost as many men as I kill in most battles, FoTS is also pretty great.

FOTS hands down.

Empire was a great concept and with enough mods it is decent but overall its ginormous heap of unoptimized animal poo.
