Complete Take Over of Japan or Stay Loyal to the Emperor?

I have been playing as the Choshu clan in Fall of the Samurai, and I have reached the point where I must decided wether to sear my alligence to the Emperor or take over Japan entirely.
I already know what I am going to do, but what are your opinions?

As a realism fanatic, I would stay loyal to the Emperor. That's what Choshu did and as a reward, it received many important positions in the new Meiji government.
Besides, thanks to CA's laziness, the Republican unit roster is pathetic. It lacks essential units like hussars, ulans, skirmishers etc.

We're talking about FotS and not Shogun II. The sabre cavalry can be seen as hussars, but due to the bad unit stats system, they don't work as they should.
