SEGA Genesis & Mega Drive Classics

How's the emulation?
How comparable are these games to the Genesis originals? I'm thinking about buying the entire set and having all these classics at my fingertips on Steam would be great....but only if the emulation is solid.

press F5 to do a quick save which load when you start the game again or while you play by pressing F9

Sloggy delayed control responses and FPS drops. Other then that everything seams to look and sound right.

Emulation is okay, but the emulator itself is slightly unstable. The one I used prior to Steam was less unpredictable, I even had a crash once.

Kega Fusion FTW - roms FTW - did you own teh game b4? Then clear your conscience.

It's serviceable. No major issues with it. Some emulators are better, like the aforementioned Kega Fusion, but this one has an advantage of being legal.

I had it freeze up once, but only because I kept repeatedly exiting out to the menu in order to talk without someone.

No major issues to be honest. However if you want to make game play footage, I recomend using an actual emulator. Only intentions of me buying this was simply because I want to support the developers. :P

No Emulator is really legal, roms are illegal. Kega Fusion isn't anymore legal than any other Emulator of the Mega Drive. All the talk about "having a Bios" is just a fake security the creators do to avoid lawsuits like Bleem! and others encountered.

Overall: Emulators are never close to the real thing.
Those Sega Mega Drive emulations range from bad to OK, nothing comes close to the real thing. There are always problem, mostly with the sound (too fast, too slow, weird, glitches) and Sega's own Compilations have their fare share of problems: again wrong sounds, graphic glitches (all those flashes in Phantasy Star 4 for example), control problems and other minor problems. It's OK if you don't know the real games and if you don't care about collecting the system for real but otherwise: Go to ebay, get a Mega Drive and the games.
(Emulation is only good for online multiplayer and that isn't featured in this collection here on steam)

you haven't even played on the emulator on steam

Not a single problem during my 4 hours of Phantasy Star 4. Stable FPS, all benefits of emulators (quicksave etc), nice antialiasing (which is very rare in common emulators).
